You'll simply have to experiment since the backgrounds differ from screen to screen. Changing the color may work for one, but not for another.

Danlisa posted these text color codes for the menu_1024_768.ini file on TS the other day:

White = 0xFFFFFFFF
Tan = 0xEBCF99FF
Black = 0xFF
Orange1 = 0xD26400FE
Orange2 = 0xDD5800FF
Orange3 = 0xE26522FF
Light Brown = 0x9F8671FF
Brown = 0x593A20FF
Grey = 0x8B8989FF
Black = 0x111111FF
Green = 0x329632FE
Light Grey = 0xB0B0B0FF
Light Tan = 0xCDB59EFF
Light Green = 0x00FF99FF

Thanks Kpt for the colour codes. Do you know which line in the ini file I would have to modify?

Below I post a pic showing how hard it is to see the text under certain backrounds.

Which line in the ini file would I have to change the colour? :hmm:

Also what colour code could you suggest I use in this situation? Or is there a website that shows different colour code for the dummies like me?

Thanks for your time and good hunting all.

Hi there mate,

Kpt. Lehmann is right!

I made a small Mod and Venatore also haves some other
for download, that changes that font color, the main
problem is that also changes the that same font when used
on the main Menus of the game!

But if you want to give it a try you can download it here:

http://files.filefront.com/Fcolor7z/.../fileinfo.html

This will change the font color to light Blue!

I will study that Problem to see if I can fix it in the Incomming U-Boat Patch!

There's 3 options here:

1) Use the mod (above) as a quick fix. Nasty hack though as it changes all the text colour.

2) JC changes the background of that screen, so the text is readable. Simpliest and easiest option. It also means that future versions of U-Boat are fully compatible with other file changes.

3) Locate the menu.ini block for each GUI location. This is the most versitile method and it will allow you to change font colours & types for each separate area in the gui/game. For example, the messages use a different font to the message window that you're trying to change.

Working in the menu.ini is a little scarey and most people would rather leave it alone but it's easily the most important file of the game. The easiest way to find what you need from the ini is to use the notepad search function (ctrl+f) and then start with some keywords. Before you start changing values, find all the entries with your keywords. You will find that, for the most part, the menu.ini is layed out quite logically and arranged in groups, for example, everything you see in the UZO screen will be in the UZO group. That would cover, TDC buttons/dials, flaggen, targeting notepad etc...the same is true for other stations.

The window GUI will be in a group by itself. It just a matter of finding it.

As previously stated, SH3 does share files in the oddest of places, so if you change a font colour somewhere and it works, 9/10 it's changed somewhere else and it doesn't work.

Thanks guys for your wisdom. I appreciate your help. Some players are old sailors whos eyes aren't as good as they used to be. This could help them get a better idea how to fix the message log text colours. For myself I'm going to figure it out. Once I have a better idea I will post something.

Quick question? I launch my careers with SH3 Commander; my next career with SH3 GWX2.0 I am going to launch with "no crew fatigue" through SH3 Commander, I just do not want to deal with the crew anymore.
Is this going to work properly with GWX2.0?

Thanks!

No not Wallsend mate...............near the airport.
This sounds like we experience similar crashes. I still couldn't find out what causes them. As for bigboywooly's suggestion, I usually don't even see the crash notification window, SH3 directly crashes to desktop. I have a number of dump files in the temp folder though ...
Might I recommend to you a good, free utility named CCleaner which will clear out all the crap in your Temp folder.

Thanks, I just wanted to point out that, due to crashes, I had a lot of *_appcompat.txt in my temp folder (I already use CCleaner)

I was searching for U-boat tga downloadable textures to create you own skin from GWX for someone in our posts when I came across Kpt. Lehmanns very first mod!

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...-boat+download

I'm curious... Kpt. have you included this mod to your GWX 2.0 or equivalent? I have to say all that dust on this old post made me open a new box of tissue.

Was this the spark that started the GWX journey to greatness?:hmm:

No, that mod is not included in GWX even though it does indeed model historically accurate crews for a handful of specific U-boats. (Other elements of the individual crewmen have changed in GWX over time also, so the mods you refer to are not compatible with GWX.)

That was my first mod though.

After a time, it just began to feel wrong... purposefully using the actual names/crews of U-boats lost in combat. I still think it was a pretty neat idea, seeing men like Martin Horenberg at the radio station again on U-869. However, in the same vein, virtually every man on those crew configuration files, remain at the bottom of the Atlantic today.

Theoretically, I could model the exact crew of just about every U-boat in WWII... but out of respect for the real men... I stopped work in that direction.

All names in the GWX mod today are Germanic / randomized fairly common names. Any resemblance to actual U-boat crewmen is coincidental.

Well I can understand wanting to respect the dead. You have to go where your heart directs you. But your right it was a cool idea to ressurect the original crews.

Thanks for answering.
