I took my new boat USS Snook for her first patrol out of Fremantle. My task was to take 31 tons of supplies and drop them off at Borneo. When I arrive the seas were rough so I thought I'd get in a little closer than I had to. I thought I would be nice to the guys in the raft. Anyway, they disembark and I start to back away from shore. Next thing I know I hear a loud boom. I look and this is what I see.

The rafters didn't quite make the best of landings. I'm guessing those 31 tons of supplies are now ruined. Btw, how do you fit 31 tons of supplies on a raft anyway? After the explosion, I see them dutifully carrying on with their mission.

I'm having a lot of fun with the "Cold War"modded L.A class 688i Hunter/Killer

I came across a IJN Task Force off the coast of Luzon

After I pumped 2 fish into a Kongo BB[see it on right side listing badly to port]a sister Kongo BB took exception to this and proceded to ram her escort Destroyer.

I guess in the IJN "FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!!!!!!!"

****EDIT*****Oh Crap!!!!!Now I got the darn "NURSE" aviator

Default Fustrating Destroyers

Well i was operating in the South China Sea, When i came up on the most unbelivable sight. A convoy of five freighters and a tanker. It was 0800 when radar picked the convoy up at a range of around 25,000 yards. I closed on the contact at full speed.

I got with in 10,000 on the surface pulled the plug and took her down and started working the tanker. I got with 6,000 yards and then to my surprise i had a subchaser on me. Not sure where she had come from but she was on a Bearing of 190 on me at 2,500 yards and closing fast. He kept on me tell he was at 1200 yards and started to turn so i fired my tube 5 from the aft room (I was in command of USS Tarpon) It was one of the luckiest shots i have ever fired. the torpedo kneeled him.

I was still closing on the tanker when the destroyer, a Minikazi, I was keeping track of came in hard on me. at 1,150 yards on the tanker i fired two forward tubes in rapid succession, crashed dived and well i heard an explosion. but I wasn't ever able to make contact again with the tanker. I can't conferm her sunk. It took me an hour to shake the destroyer and by the time I was able to come back up to take a peak, I had lost contact with the convoy. My radar was damaged during the depth charging.

But i do have one confermed kill on the subchaser and one hit on the tanker.

I was messing around with manual targeting to get the hang of it, so I loaded up the free Tokyo Express mission. I got hit by a destroyer and was very badly damaged. I couldn't move. I was trying to target a destroyer off my starboard bow (with TBT), when all of a sudden I hear that distinctive sound of another destroyer about to ram me at full speed. What a wild ride it was was! The sub nearly turned turtle! Maybe it was mating season or something, but I think the destroyer enjoyed humping my boat!

Apparently, though, this destroyer was a little overzealous in its technique.

Shortly after I died, too. I died just before a third destroyer was about to ram me at full speed.

Japanese destroyer captain: "Note to self, never EVER try to ram a U.S. Fleet Submarine."

I forgot to say last night when I posted those shots, that I was submerged was heavily depth charged. I had set up a good 90* shot for when the destroyers approached. Just as I was about to start plotting out firing solutions they changed course. They were all practically heading right for me. I knew it was just a course change when they weren't pinging or zig-zagging. I tried to reposition but they picked me up and started pinging. I could either sink or surface so I ordered emergency surface to at least make things interesting. I had just reinstalled the game because I thought I had screwed it up somehow. Turns out I didn't. I will eventually reinstall some mods, but for now I am playing stock 1.4 to get the hang of manual targeting. So far it is really fun.

This has been fixed in the add-on (the destroyer that sinks when ramming the sub).

I just had to take a few shots from my current patrol. My third war patrol in the Asiatic Fleet and my first in the USS Pompano.

I was struck by the beauty of these boats on the surface and by the menace they represent when submerged.
