Sink'em All

There are some 250 different missions listed in SH4. They range from patrolling an area to photo recons to lifeguarding. I propose that we eliminate for right now about 35 of these missions to begin with. Most of these have to do with Photo Recons, Spy insertions on the Japanese mainland, China, and Formosa can be eliminated. Photo Recons in SH4 involve entering harbors in Japan and other places. I would suggest that we just eliminate all of those for now. Below is the list of missions I think that should be removed.
The only thing I’m unsure off is whether deleting the above will effect other things ingame related to the missions. Maybe CapnScurvy or Jeff_Groves would know.

In the meantime, I'm suspecting that what you saw by the East China Sea may have been something different than an ASW Hunter/Killer group cdrsubron7. Unfortunately, I can't find the other threads that document what others have encountered, though I do remember seeing them... Were the destroyers in columns of two, or just single file? Did it appear that they might have been groups of 7-9 destroyers? No nearby merchants? Any sign of a cruiser or two, light or heavy? |

Came across this while doing a quick search on campaign files. Don't have time to give it a thorough look now will do so latter.

That little tool looks interesting, but it doesn't look like it gets into the actual campaign layer, but rather the unit layer. Still worth checking out though... Oooh, he uses Python in it for scripting... Now if I can just remember my JuCo days... |

I do know that I've gotten
Photo Honshu 04 Hiroshima for a first mission everytime I've started a new campaign from Pearl Dec 8, 1941 and used "Normal"... very frustrating, and I've died from trying it all but once, when the Hunter / Killers got me enroute... |

I can find nothing with my meager skills cdrsubron7, but what I'm thinking of doing is creating a mission right in the middle of the area, and just sitting there on the surface with radar while the clock ticks by. 'Course, I don't know what good that'll do... Get me sunk again, maybe? Probably. One little tidbit - I'm looking closer at (where ARE my confounded reading glasses?...) is the EastAsiaCampaign.mis file. It has the potential to generate a bunch of Akizuli destroyers, but there's usually a cruiser with them. However, the first Akizuli is the "leader", and I'm still looking through the file, getting confused...
Do you remember about where you were, and the date of the DD "display-of-force"? You said back a few pages it was October 1943, East China Sea, West of Okinawa. Were you like just about in the middle between Korea, China, Formosa and Japan? We might take Jeff-Groves up on and have him ask Dan what he knows about this, or get some insight into the MIS file parameters... |

I put it there to better center the compass, but the fact that the compass isn't in that area, or in single graphic display (it's showing double) is wrong. My hope is to have the compass "stay" in the marked area for all resolutions, other than 1024x768, which it does show correctly. Today I've spent all of my time seeing to it that the compass stays put for other resolutions. I think its fixed now. Here's a 1600x1200 8:5 aspect ratio screen shot: The compass stays put for the various resolutions that my work computer can display (1024x768; 1280x1024; 1792x1344 and others). I also enlarged the compass for easier viewing. This same compass is used for the Deck Gun and AA views, so I've enlarged tham as well. I'll put another mod to be used with the beta up on the Google site later with the fix....called "FOTRS Air_Ship_Sounds_2.1". I'll remove the existing 2.0 mod. One thing I've also noticed is the Shortwave Radio with the Strategic Map, and the Phonograph with the Conversion Chart doesn't show on screen at the 1792x1344 resolution?? I'm suspecting the image is pooched for the larger resolutions too....meaning their menu_1024_768.ini file is messed up too. You can either find the Shortwave Radio in the Command Room as a clickable 3D object, or in the Radio Room. The Phonograph is always in the Radio Room.....OR, either can be accessed with a Command Button along the bottom of the screen. I'll try to figure out if I can get them to show for the larger resolutions before putting out this binocular compass fix.

I'm 99% sure the maru mod will be ready by this time Friday. A lot slimmer than in my test version.
