DVD requires a password!
My son bought a Thomas the Tank Engine Region 2 DVD from HMV last week to play in our DVD player (not computer), but after the normal "Loading" message on the screen we get "Enter Password". I immediately tried another DVD in the player and no problems... it's just this one.
I've watched literally hundreds of DVDs on this and other players and this has never happened before.... why is this?

That is weird, must be made to play in a computer, but then do you have the password? I would take it back for a refund!

Looked all over the box and the disc... it's just a plain ordinary DVD, not a computer disc.
We wonder whether there was maybe a password on the acetate wrapper, which the boy would've thrown away. Moira didn't keep the shop receipt, of course, so we'll see what HMV have to say

Eich you would not get passwords on the wrapper they would be in the disk case, saying that sounds like some buffoon put that disk in the wrong box. If it was cheap HMV would probably exchange it for you unless it was above £15 then they may get funny. UK is region two but that means nothing when you need a password, never came across such a thing on a play DVD unlike some PC disks.

My son has discovered now that this strange DVD does play normally on his Playstation3 machine
I also finally found something about it online: a very disappointed Amazon customer, whose son is also autistic and had to deal with his upset, as did we. She doesn't qualify her complaint about this item, but I feel certain it's the same as ours

Eich I can not see that review, one slight difference to your screenshot my one shows after the title [DVD] and there are a number of other reviews most are 5 star.

As you say, most reviews are fine (except the weird ones from people complaining that they'd ordered the wrong thing and couldn't send it back ) But as I recall I had to log in to Amazon to read further reviews, and there was just this one... hidden away. Well I just logged on again to look for it and what do you know... it's not there anymore! Good thing I took that screenshot I've got the URL on my uncropped screenie so I'm going to type the whole thing in (can't copy & paste because it's just a picture) to see what comes up that way

I've learned to take low Amazon reviews with a grain of salt. The cheaper the item, the more people enjoy complaining about it.
As an example, suppose someone could write a review for a surprise birthday party on Amazon: *- It seemed like a good idea when my friends jumped out of a closet but it gave me PTSD. The presents could have been better and the cake had an odd taste to it. Then rats jumped out of one of the gift boxes and bit me. One thing I learned from reading Amazon reviews- there are a LOT of Screw Ups walking the planet. Amazon could sell a single sheet of white paper and someone would complain that the instructions were too confusing, or there wasn't enough packaging, or it was the wrong shade of white, or it burst into flame when they tried to use it to repair their flame thrower. |
