688i Red Interface Mod

Very cool. Have you looked into what it would require to adjust the color of every element on a station by adding in the red glow (except like the periscope view)? Knowing DW, it's probably a lot of work.
Well, let me think about that. Additive vs subtractive color combinations.. I guess screens that emit light are less susceptible to being turned red by the glow than just things that purely reflect light?

I had to individually edit 217 .bmp files to add the red hue. You can't just edit the main panel and call it a day. You have to edit every state of every button and switch (on/off/up/down/left/right). I could probably edit the main panel files to adjust specific light sources reflecting on various switches, but then I would have to find the individual button .bmp files and adjust the specific part of the button that the light would be hitting if I pasted it back into the main panel file. Sound confusing? Because it is. And way more work then I will ever dream of doing. I'm done with this mod. If someone else wants to take up the task of modifying 217 elements to match real life light refraction physics....be my guest!!! PS Btw, the original textures already did have shadows and coloring based on a light source above the panel. All I did was uniformly change the color and tone of the panel using a photoshop preset so everything would match. Last edited by Halcyon; 07-31-17 at 04:28 PM. |

First of all very commendable effort and great results. Bravo!

However, there are shortcuts and tools which make changes to any number of graphic files a breeze. Is called - batch process and automation. Any, even freeware, paint and picture editors have those features and they work quite astonishingly well. Just making "redder" bmp output in Irfanview is quite a easy process and any number of files is no problem for batch conversion process. Still it is easier and faster to dispense advices than make it really happen....I rather know it as some of my projects(not DW ...yet) took years to complete. Thank you for your effort to make DW better. |

@Halcyon
I appreciate your effort but I think most players expected something different than red filter. Some time ago I have made postprocessed screen from 688i H/K (just for fun) using only "scripted effects" from imgur: I know that picture is not same kind like yours but... you can use "batch process" from @Polak2 advise. It's just little more work for you. |

Ok, but you announced "red lights" but it looks like "red paint".

Nice mod for me. I´m annoyed of the constant grey look in 688s (my fav sub). I play without externals views, only with map and stations; a touch of dramatism in the stations is well for me.
Many thanks for the mod! Fitzcarraldo |

very nice!
you can be sure the community appreciates all the hard work put in by modders to improve our favorite games. edit: had a chance to play with this. nice mod, simple but effective. The 688i interface is the weakest one in the game, especially when compared to the Seawolf and Russian subs since it is basically unchanged since the original "688i Hunter Killer" game. This is a nice way to refresh it and spruce it tup.

I am also using the red interface mod when playing Vanilla.
Wouldn´t give 2C about what this guy thinks. I´ve also made his unpleasant acquaintance and he is indeed a "special one". He certainly doesn´t speak for us all and probably just wanted to use this thread to proudly show off his Imgur picture work. He did something similar on a YT video of mine. Modders don´t get discouraged by something like this and you can be certain that the majority of us appreciate your work no matter what idea you present. |
