SHO Introducing Pacific Fleet: new action sim for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

The Empire of Japan has just attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. Can you rebuild the mighty United States Pacific Fleet and win back the Pacific from the expansionist Japanese Empire?

Pacific Fleet is a fast-paced game set upon a detailed simulation depicting naval warfare between the United States and Imperial Japan during World War II.

Features:
- Retina graphics depict the greatest war at sea in stunning full 3D
- Historically based ships, aircraft, weapons and dozens of ship upgrades
- A unique blend of deep strategic planning combined with quick tactical decisions
- 45 combat zones to shell, bomb and torpedo on your way to Japan and victory
- Complete 30 achievements including 12 historical battles
- Sink ships with realistic buoyancy physics, not with hit-point bars!
- Submarine warfare and carrier operations with bombers and torpedo bombers
- Dynamic weather, shore bombardments and night engagements
- Target specific ship subsystems to sink or cripple the enemy
- 7 playable ships (submarine, destroyer, light cruiser, escort carrier, heavy cruiser, battleship, aircraft carrier)
- Random ship placement, wind, weather and night engagements make each play-through unique

Coming August/September 2012 to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Looks nice, considering the hardware. I wonder if we can navigate the ships in the 3d world as all the screenshots and pics show only seem to show gunnery options. Also the "next" button which keeps appearing perhaps indicates the 3d sequences are turn based?

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the author of Pacific Fleet.

Ship navigation has been simplified to allow them to move "closer to", or "further away" from the enemy. This allows the player/enemy to move out of bracketing fire, close in to gun/torpedo range or retreat if severely damaged.

As you have correctly observed the game is turn based. The player takes a turn and then each enemy ship takes a turn. Each combat zone is restricted to 6 turns (8 with bonus airstrikes if you purchase both carriers) so players will need to plan on how to inflict the most damage with the ship/resources at hand.

Pacific Fleet is built upon a full simulation and this "action" version is the first iteration. Given enough interest in the game the plan is to extend it to include full 3D navigation of vessels, individual guns on target, more ships and flesh it out into a full simulation with navigation on the Pacific Ocean map.

If anyone has questions for the developer of PF, this is a great place to ask.

Thanks Sonarman. Although I have to admit I have been a lurker on these forums for many years, since the release of Silent Hunter III back in 2005 in fact

Silent Hunter III and the "Natural Sinking Mechanics" mod were a huge inspiration for Pacific Fleet and I've been an avid fan of many of the full realism mods as well. That extra level of detail seems to be lacking in many games these days...

For anyone interested there is a detailed description of the ballistics and buoyancy physics on the Pacific Fleet developer's page. Note that there are indicators to provide a visual queue on the amount of damage and/or flooding a ship has sustained, but the actual sinking or capsizing of a vessel is all based on buoyancy physics.

I have a large collection of PC naval games dating back to DOS, Windows 95 and XP and the recent Windows 7. There isn't much lately in PC naval games other than online games. Is this PACIFIC FLEET game going to be available as a PC game?? The trailer looks good. I'd like to add it my naval collection. Reminds me of the old TASK FORCE 1942 and DESTROYER COMMAND. THANKS!!

Good question. Pacific Fleet has been developed using the Unity Engine so it can be ported to PC, Mac, iOS, Android etc. Right now I've focused on iOS and if it generates enough interest a release via Steam for PC would certainly be possible at some point in future.

Just finished the last round of testing. Everything looks solid, found a few cosmetic bugs and tweaked the damage model a little more.

The goal is to get it right and make a great impression with the first players to set out to sea with it.

Hope to have it submitted by end of day tomorrow. Once released I'll be very grateful for any feedback from the SUBSIM community as you folks are the most experienced naval warfare gamers out there.
