U-Boat Propulsion SFX

U-Boat Propulsion SFX

  • This mod replaces eight original Silent Hunter V audio files with modded versions.
  • The eight audio files which have been modded are as follows;
    • motor_Diesel_LOOP.wav (created by Venatore)
    • motor_Electric_LOOP.wav (created by Venatore)
    • Submarine_diesel_exterior.wav (merged & manipulated by Venatore)
    • Submarine propellers 2.wav (merged & manipulated by Venatore)
    • Submarine_diesel_underwater.wav (merged & manipulated by Venatore)
    • Submarine_electric_exterior.wav (merged & manipulated by Venatore)
    • Submarine_hyd.wav (created by Venatore)
    • Vapor Propeller.wav (created by Venatore)
  • By utilising this mod; your U-Boat propulsion will now have the familiar diesel U-96 Das Boot movie sound effect. I’ve also created a unique electric generator SFX for the U-Boat, for best effect stand in the generator room to listen to the new electric generator SFX.
  • Whilst in contact with the enemy, you should consider closing all compartment doors aft of the command room; this will reduce engine noise filtering into your command room compartment.
  • The Das Boot U-boat screw sound effect was created by an unknown modder of the Subsim community & I would like to acknowledge whoever he/she is. I would also like to thank Jimbuna for uploading sounds that I required to complete this mod.
  • For best results you should consider using my audio mods called;
  • German U-Boat Crew Language Pack
  • Unterseeboot SFX
  • All audio files contained within this mod were created & or merged by Venatore.
  • This mod is JSGME compatible.
  • This mod is zipped with WinRAR.

Will the enemy AI actually detect such sounds?

DavyJonesFootlocker,
Honestly, I don't know, however; My actions on when commencing operations against the enemy is reduce speed to silent running, close all compartments aft of the command compartment, order all hands to battle stations and commence manoeuvrings against the enemy.

Sounds; I would hope play a big part in relation to enemy awareness & if you are compromised due to sound position then this simulation is better than I thought. If not then this simulation is far from realistic.

Hello Venatore , thank you for your sound Mods , report about some of them:
1) : The blow ballast mod is OK, apparently when I order surface the starting blow sound is similar as the Stock SH5 blow ballast sound but is seamlessly followed by a pressurised air moving ( all this in about 10 or 15 seconds )
2) : When submerged, inside the sub the electric motors sound is OK, my comment is, the noise of the electric motor inside the diesel room is exact the same intensity as inside the electric motor room , therefore I think the electric motors must have the biggest noise inside the electric motor room
3) : This comment is a bit strange , and I am not 100% sure about this, I try already two single missions and when I surfaced the U-Boot, the diesel motor sound is OK when I am inside the sub, but when I jump out on the external bridge, I think I can hear the electric motor sound almost hidden behind the noise of the diesel engine, therefore apparently both diesel engine and electric motor are running simultaneously, I am not 100% sure about this because the electric motor is barely audible and is 95% covered up with the diesel engine sound

tonschk,

What your hearing is the whooshing of the screws exactly like in Das boot. When your on the conning tower you will still have the whooshing screw effect (it's ever so faint) but it is there. I did this on purpose so as it becomes a continuous effect through the U-Boat.

So to answer Q3; you are correct, however; I think is adds more SFX to the overall package.

You'll note in the movie Das Boot when U96 is compromised on the surface on two different occasions as she is just disappearing beneath the waves the footage switches to the external view of U96 descending and immediately the whooshing of the screw can be heard, this was well & truly within the time zone of the diesels still running.

It was a compromise for community members wanting the whooshing Das Boot SFX & trying to enhance an already existing SFX.

The Ballast tank mod has two very distinct sounds the original sound upon a dramatic shift in movement within the ballast & then a seamless transfer of the alternate sound which is the transfer / steady movement of the the ballast in action.

Thank you for your feedback, I've copied and pasted your comments into my mod bible documentation

Regards Ven

I understood Eveything is OK I was confusing the sound of the electric motor with the sound of the screw/propeller

The only thing I found was that when submerged, I still hear the Diesels as if they were running also. it is very noticeable when going ahead full and flank speed.

Default Ballast SFX problem

If I surface a couple times "not sure what the exact criteria is" but the game completely loses the ballast sound when I surface or do dive maneuvers.

Ambient Underwater SFX

Ambient Underwater SFX

  • This mod replaces the original ambient underwater sound effect file with a modded version.
  • The audio file which has been modded is as follows;
  • amb_Underwater_Q.wav
  • By utilising this mod; the sound of the ambient underwater will have a totally new sound. This new sound has enhanced sounds and a less intrusive heavy rumbling sound in the background. This mod also enables you to really hear your U-boat electric & diesel engines underwater.
  • The audio file contained within this mod was created by Venatore.
  • This mod is JSGME compatible.
  • This mod is zipped with WinRAR.
Thank you for downloading this mod

Kind Regards

Venatore.
