Default DW and Windows 8.1 ?

Hello, dear bubbleheads

Owning a computer under Windows 8.1, I felt sad when I learned that this game (which I planned to buy) doesn't work under Win8 and newer.

But a question crossed my mind: even if the developpers don't want to patch this game, maybe a kind modder did

Does an unofficial patch (or a trick maybe) exist so I can play Dangerous Waters on my computer ?

Thanks for your answers

Unfortunately, no one to my knowledge has found a solution for Windows 8 and it's not officially supported by Sonalysts according to their support site.

I suppose a downgrade to Windows 7 is not an option for you, but this is the route I've taken since I personally don't see any advantages to Windows 8.1 for desktop use. The only other option I might suggest would be to try running Dangerous Waters in a virtual environment such as VMware ThinApp, although I've not tried this myself and can't promise any success. For home use I own a MacBook Pro and run Dangerous Waters in OS X using Crossover, which works quite well since it simulates a Windows XP environment.

VMWare with Windows 7 works for me. Just use the search option for this forum and you will find more detailed threads about it.

Oh you'll get used to it in time.

SubSim tends to be a friendly forum and welcome greetings are commonplace.

Oh, btw...welcome

Same questions, same answers:
- have a dual boot (with win XP + whatever else)
- run on virtual environment
- buy an xp machine for 50$ to run it.

Seems to be working well for me too on Windows 8.1. The game insists on starting up the Speech Recognition software whenever I try to access the Options menu though.

That happens in Windows 7 too, maybe even in Vista. So that is normal.

That happens to me too on windows 7. It bothers me to no end...
To this day, I still haven't found a fix for that.

Mine did it until I went through the voice setup. It loads the voice module now but I simply don't use it.

Cool, DW is running great on my new windows 8.1 laptop.

Now how to I get DW to use my AMD Radeon GFX chip instead of the Intel HD 500 chip? If I do it in game it crashes.

Do I change adaptor ID = 1 instead of 0?

Recently started reading Red Storm Rising again after many years. Reminded me of the days of Janes and the other combat sims and got out my copy of Dangerous Waters with high hopes only to find it would not load. Then found this thread and now it works again!

Only problem is with the 3D graphics and the banding that is occurring. Not in the preview window when adjusting options, that looks fine but in the game itself. Outside views, the mini-screen and full screen views and even through the scope. LTV seems OK.

AMD 6800 card

Update: Loaded on my notebook Toshiba with Intell HD graphics set to Performance and great graphics no banding of splotching.

Another thing and I've only played a couple of missions, the sonar waterfall tracks are either so light a can't see them or not there. Using autocrew they call out contacts and I have the alpha markers at the top but the trace lines don't seem to be there. I'm getting to 10nm and less and I don't see them.
