Default I love the new Belchen supply ship!

I do. It really makes the earlier patrols a lot more fun because now you can patrol the northern waters and go all the way to the Canadian en US coast in your type VIIb/c.
And visit New York before the US become hostile (dec 41).

I have a lot of fun patrolling against the Nothern convoys, best career so far!
Thanks GWX modders

It does make it easier not having to worry about fuel as much.

That's right, you will not always be the only one refuelling!

I'm kind of wondering how this works too. I'm using GWX2.0 and SH3 Commander. Also, does this count as another mission?

When you dock with it it'll resupply you with both fuel and ordnance. It'll also end your current patrol, and create a new patrol with a patrol grid of NULL and destination of your home port.

But warning, it will cost you whatever time you would normally be in port between patrols. Three weeks to resupply your boat! (I know its a stock issue...too bad it can't be fixed for a more realistic resupply period.)

You can use SH3Cmdr to adjust time between patrols.

Not quite true...but even better! SH3 Commander automatically sets the time between patrols to one day plus a day for each point of damage repaired, any time you're at a supply ship or milk cow. I'm not sure, but I think it also does it at friendly ports.

To be more realistic it should actually take longer to ressuply at a milk cow (unless its fuel only), transferring torpedos at sea was a very risky and time consuming process. If conditions were bad you were pretty much SoL and would've had to wait for the storm to pass. Trying to move a volatile warhead between two moving boats on North Atlantic currents wasn't an easy operation; in a u-boat pen or dockyard you're pretty much immobile and can be resupply in a factory assembly line manner.

Until the French ports become available the supply ships serve as my home base as their positions are perfect for either US raiding or mediterranean (before La Spezia/Salamis is available). Last patrol after expending all torpedos/ammo I had to dodge 3 outbound conveys from Halifax just to get to the supply ship, one of them I just had rotten luck and ran perfectly perpendicular into one and the escort saw me long enough before I could dive that he made life miserable for a few hours in the (relatively) shallow water in that area.

I finally got to visit Belchen during a patrol that started off as the pits. I chased a convoy that I never found and sank nothing until I came across a 110 ton trawler and decided to sink it with gunfire to exercise my gun crew.

They were pathetic and in the end I think the poor little vessel just died of boredom. In despair I continued west and then bingo, with nothing in sight I dived and listened at the hydrophone. Just as well I did because I picked up a fast moving vessel. Turned out to be a 25,000 ton troop ship that was crossing my bows. Flank speed and just enough time to fire four T1 Eels before it zoomed past at 21 knots. Not even sure how many hit but up it went (with LOTS of lifeboats afterwards).

Then I noticed for the first time Belchen on the chart and thought why not top up and go to Canada and see what is there. So pulled up alongside, refuelled and rearmed and away I went.

Now some questions. On passage to Canada I came across a convoy and had a chance to target a heavy cargo and fired off two eels (both dud) but if I did, I had five escorts make my life hell for three hours and took quite a bit of damage before escaping.

After repairs I noticed that my fuel was REALLY low which meant I had to head back to Belchen (where I am now) to refuel. The question is can you lose fuel when attacked.

Other question. I saw in the convoy a tanker that was burning, I then saw on my chart a type IX submarine that was astern of the convoy. Other than in harbour I have never come across another Uboat. Clearly from the burning tanker it must have attacked the convoy. Does this happen?

Long story short. I am having dinner this evening with the skipper of the supply boat and will sail back to Canada at dawn.
