Default I-17

I was reading in a book that the I-17 of the B1 Class had the aircraft hanger facing towards the rear of the submarine. is this true? i can not find any pictures of this particular submarine.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the I-7 (J-3 type) Their plane was aft launched.

In combined fleet it says it was sunk by Tui... it misses the other ship. The other Corvette was called the 'Moa'. They forced it to surface then ran it onto a reef.

I saw a pic, a real nice one of a Japanese sub with aircraft launch, but it was not the 1-17. There is a picture of one somewhere with the caption explaining the sailors were destroying the aircraft before surrender.

Here what is supposed to be the I-17...

http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~pitroad/display/pt/pt18-19.jpg

It's a scale model, hard to see what way the plane launches from there.

Here's a better one....

I-17

Looks Forward Launched.

All of the B-1 class have a forward hanger, except for the I-17, which is aft.

This was the most numerous class of Japanese submarines. These boats were fast, long-ranged, and carried a seaplane, which could be launched on a forward catapult. However, I-17 carried the catapult aft, and her hangar opened aft as well.

Someone should tell the guy making those models then ^^

Plus, the number on the conning tower was different anyway.

Yep, I was just saying in relation to my earlier post, that this 1-17 link, the model maker has the I-17 listed as that model. Clearly it isnt the same model :p

As far as finding an image of I-17, if it is available, it may not be on the internet. And if it is, it's pretty well hidden.
