SHO Destination Tokyo!

This is a very good movie! I'm watching it on TCM at the moment.

What are your thoughts on it?

Yes, I realize that this movie is terribly inaccurate from a historical standpoint.

I think Tokyo's a great destination, especially the Roppongi district...

It suffers from being made during the war, thus having a heroic crew accomplish the impossible for propaganda purposes. That said, it is a cut above most such movies and a fun film to watch.

Run Silent, Run Deep was a better movie IMO.

Both movies were inaccurate historically but i enjoyed them

But it completely trashed the book.

I feel the same way about Crash Dive. Average movie at best, but it has live color footage of an S-boat, as well as the older Elco 77-foot PT boats.

I honestly enjoyed the movie years back but took into account a large slice of propaganda was also intended.

People always note the propaganda aspects of the movie, but it's not near as bad as other movies of the time. Try watching "Air Force" without cringing, or outright laughing.

I think I made the point that pretty much any war movie made during the war had a fair share of propaganda. They pretty much had to.

Here's one from the other side. No subtitles, but not hard to follow.

I really like it. I have a copy I aquired a long time ago, and now I have to find it. I could have sworn that when they arrive home from the patrol at the start of the movie, Dönitz himself was there to greet them.
