How To Use/Read Charts

When the nav. map view is up, there are two pull down charts that I think might be useful. If I'm not mistaken, they are mileage charts that show Knots traveled in a given time? I cannot read German, so I'm not getting the full benefit from these two charts. Is there an explanation/interpretation to be had?
Also the ruler now has some numbers next to it. What are these used for?
As a matter of fact, Most of the tools on the nav map are of little use for me as I've never found an explanation on how to use, (for example) the compass. I am, however well versed in the use of the eraser.
I played SH3 about a year ago and have recently returned to the game. I reinstalled, plus added GW and Commander. It is more fun now than before, but I think if I could use the tools provided it would be even more fun.

Basically the charts are there to tell you how far your target could have travelled in kilometers based on their speed during a certain amount of time. "Stunde" means "Hour" in English. Min means Min.

So find your targets speed on the left side column, than read over to the specific time frame you're interested in or find the distance along the row and you can see how many hours/minutes it would take to travel that far.

So in the example below you can see that a "Slow" moving target, which means they are moving 2-6 kts, will take 3 hours to travel 33km if they are moving at 6kts.

Here's a basic translation of one of the tables:
