Default UC3 Nautilus dive trials

Hi Guys

Just wanted to inform you that in app 2 weeks the Nautilus is going to do her first static dive trials with National Geographic attending. So hopefully this means that she will be ready for ocean dives by the end of this year.

I will try to attend and get some video for you.

Couldnt help stopping by her again today...Peter showed me the controls for the trim tanks and the air system that can empty the main ballasttanks.

The only thing missing is the levers for the for and aft main ballast tanks valves. Then all the dive systems using ballast is done!

We fooled around with it for a bit moving water in and out of the trimtanks and the ballast tanks

We are also both cramming for the test for seamanship.
If im lucky, I will be one of the 3 who we be OK to operate the boat without any other qualified personal onboard It just requires some more education.

I'm glad to see that they are totally professional about this and doing it all according to plan and schedule.

One of the very few things I didn't like about the movie The Right Stuff was that it gave the impression that Chuck Yeager was an unpricipled cowboy who jumped into the X-1 almost on a dare and broke the sound barrier because he was so cool. In fact the record-breaking flight was his 13th in the aircraft, his 10th powered flight in same, and the last three flights before the attempt were made pushing progressively closer to mach 1, taking notes and making changes every step of the way. Totally professional from the get-go.

I hope the dive trials prove the sub to be totally safe. I don't have to hope they'll take every reasonable precaution when the day comes; from your descriptions that's exactly what they are doing already.

Best of luck to them on a cool venture.

This sub is so big that it will be very irresponsible to operate it without education.

Furthermore we are building a rule/guideline book for her in regards to what is unique for her. Stuff like max capacity, minimal crew combination for dives etc will be listed in here. Must of it dictated by safety rules.

He has build ballast systems for the 2 other subs, so I dont worry too much about the construction of it.
