Default Multiple installs of SHIII and GWX

i have just downloaded GWX2.0 and was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction. I really want to keep my GWX1.3 installation and have a copy of GXW2.0 as well. What do i need to do to ensure that i can have both running bearing in mind that they both will use the documents/sh3 folder. I would also like to have a multiple install of SH3 Commander as well. Any help would be appreciated.

There's a cute little program called "Multi SH3" which allows multiple installs and provides separately named folders for saves in the User/documents directory. It might even still be on the downloads page of this very site.

A word of caution. I'm not sure it works fully with GWX2, so I've installed GWX2 and have, ready a vanilla copy patched to 1.4b in a separate folder so that I can have multiple installs when the situation with Multi-SH3 becomes clear.

It works fine with GWX2.0. Detailled instructions:

Install of Multiple Versions

1)Complete a fresh install of SH3 + 1.4b as normal.
2)Create a copy of the program folder & rename as required.
3)Install your mod of choice to the renamed version.
4)Create and rename shortcuts as required.
5)Use MultiSH3 to create separate save locations for each install.

SH3 Commander & Multiple Installs

It is recommended to have a separate install of Commander for each different install of SH3.
1)Install SH3Commander and rename the program folder to suit.
2)Rename each SH3Cmdr shortcut as required.
3)You will need to use the l: switch to point SH3Cmdr to the right installation.

Here's an example of the l: switch for dual installs, just tailor it to fit.....

Right click on the SH3Cmdr shortcut & choose properties.

Target
"C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GWX\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII-GWX"

Start in
"C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GWX"

Hi Guys!

Sorry to throw this question in, but what exactly does "Vanilla" SH3 mean?

SHIII with no mods. Patched is still Vanilla or Stock. Don't let Penelope Grey hear you calling it vanilla though. She has a thing about that flavour...

or can you not just make 2 short cuts one default sh3 location and one modified?

Ok here is what I did.
I reinstalled SH3 and patched 1.4b into a default directory. I then made a new directory called /Ubisoft/SH3GWX2 and copied the orginal /Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII files. I then installed GWX2.0 into the newer folder. I made individual shortcuts for GWX2 and default SH3. Since JSGME was included I just renamed the shortcut. I installed a new JSGME for my default SH3 directory. So far all works fine. I installed once SH3Commander and it uses only default but with you help that will change. Do I have to install MultiSH3? If I know which names are what I could use new carrier names to play different version of SH3? Yes? No?

So Wolfehunter for SH3GWX2 and alt name for SilentHunterIII. As long as I don't mix the names in each version they shouldn't be corrupted right?:hmm: I hope I didn't confuse you too much.
Thanks.
