Default What's the difference between Sub Command and DW?

I haven't yet bought Dangerous Waters because I don't know if it would give me any drastic differences in play from Sub Command.

Are the submarine models exactly the same just like when they took the game "688I" added a Seawolf and an Akula and called it "Sub Command"?

I realize they added something like 7 other platforms to DW, but if I did get Dangerous Waters, I know me, I'll end up being USS Connecticut everytime (one of my old boats and home state).

Do they model the Jimmy Carter (SSN-23) in this one? She's the odd Seawolf-class ship..

I suppose, just for the sake of gettin' to drive around a Kilo, it's almost worth it... but I'd really like to know if there was any great strides to improve the realism and function of the submarines in the game. :hmm:

Thanks!

In a sense, it is an evolution from Sub Command, in that the interface is the same. It's a new physics and acoustics model, though.

I don't think it's fair to say DW is just SC with more toys to play with. The addition of surface and air platforms to drive or fight against makes gameplay in DW fundamentally different from SC. It really is a whole new world.

almost the same except you got newer platforms ie MH60 P3C perry frigate and kilo submarine

main thing i found was the akulas diving depth has been reduced from 660 meters (in SCX2C it was 715m) to 585 meters (max i can go to)

but im not to worried as long as it works

highly recomended with patch however i do hope sonalasyst pulls its finger out cause there just gunna be no intrest soon

Well shipmate, from a fellow one time bubblehead. It is much improved as far as enjoyment. The platforms are all fun and add the enjoyable chance to see how the other half fares. Very cool to see how the other half lives and dies. I have a new respect for the skimmer pukes and airdale sissies

Also the MP can rock. God save the fools that should come to face a couple subs with 2 or 3 guys with experience manning them. I've also had fun with turning all the auto crews off and playing some SP missions in multistation with some buddies. Hook up to a Teamspeak server and it is like being on the boat with sound powered phones. If I could get someone to tilt my chair back and forth for depth changes I might actually think I was at battlestations

The new physics model alone is worth the change. You won't see any 'flying subs' in Dangerous Waters!

(And, I love the new 'bridge view' when entering/leaving harbor )

DW is lightyears ahead of standard SC, better graphics, more stations, more platforms etc.

Plus its the one that the modders are concerntrating on. The new sound mod and LW realism mod are worth it alone. Oh and dont forget the lovely printed manual if you go for the delux version

Default Excellent...

Thank you everyone who has replied so far...

I'm gettin' ready to whip out the ol' Visa Card right now... I only wish I didn't have to wait to get my hands on it... but I HAVE to have that printed manaul, good readin' material for the throne!

I'm glad Molon Labe added that the acoustics model has improved, that was my selling point, I hope they made some attempts to improve how the TA's are modeled.

I'm really hoping they added some new acoustic propagation paths and enhanced the impact of environment on acoustic performance.

Thanks again, everyone!
