Default SH3 GWX3 Gold edition installation issues

Hi guys!

Soooo im back playing SH3 since years. I bought it for 5 bucks on steam and installed it on a separate drive. My problem now is:

I can run SH3 vanilla without a problem but as soon as I install GW3 Gold the game will stop running. Ive been doing clean installs already, which means that I kicked out all the dirt, put SH3 in a clean directory away from the Steam folder and installed the GW mod with the administrator rights into said folder. Yet the game refuses to start. A double click on the exe file and the link to the exe file are not working.

There is no indication of an error or crash, the game just wont react after I clicked upon the icon to start it.

My system:

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 Bit

Intel Dualcore CPUs 2,2 GHz

Nvidia 610M graphic card as well as an Intel Integrated Graphics Card
(Tried to start the game with either one of these cards and failed)

Graphic drivers:
Nvidia:
Date: 29.12.2012
Version:9.18.13.1090

Please help, I want to sink ships badly

Are you using the 4GB patch? SH3-GWX3 will try to cram itself into 2GB without it, no matter how much RAM you actually have.

Hope it helps.

I found out that Steam, by standard, sets the folder of SH3 to read only. GWX3 could not install all files that way. Fixed it by disabling the read only option.

Thanks for the help, time to blow up stuff

Great to hear that you got it working. That kind of info might help other players too.

There could be a how to set up SH3 Steam sticky thread as well, as many new players get the Steam version.
