Default Help. I'm lost.

Hello. I am going to buy a laptop and i found two possible solutions. The first one has an HD4650 1Gb onboard while the other one an HD4570 512Mb on board. The first one costs 900 euros while the second one 600euros. I can afford to pay up to 800euros.
Other differences: 1st choice: 2,13GHz processor Intel Core Duo P7350
640Gb SATA Hard disk
2nd choice: 2GHz processor Intel Core Duo T4200
320GHz SATA Hard disk
Both laptops are Toshiba.
Both laptops have 4Gig RAM.

Pleasa bear in mind that the machine must be able to play SH5 descently. Its imperative.

Help plz. I can't decide.

A special request for anyone living in Lyon,France. Do you guys know any shop other than fnac or darty where i can buy a laptop? Merci d' avance.

If it were me and it is not, I would take the lesser machine of the two. Reason one, I would never use 640GB of hard disk. Not in this life time. That leaves us with two processors. Both are close in speed. Too close to matter to me. Vid card, the card with the 512mb should run SH5 without issue. 4 gigs of RAM are just great so you are good there no matter what you buy. Toshiba is a good computer. My folks have one and they have not managed to blow it up. Lord knows they try.

One key - you requested a machine that will run SH5.

As of right now, we have no idea what specs SH5 is going to require, or recommend.

If this is "critical" - wait on the purchase for a few more months until the specs are released.

I have to say I am slightly confused. Let me get this straight.. you have a choice between a 600 and 900 euro laptop, but can only afford to spend 800?

doesn't that put the 900 euro system out of your price range then?

Yes it does. But i forgot to mention that it maybe possible to add 200euros in my current account. 800+200=1000euros.

@CaptainHaplo
Yes, i'm aware of the fact that Ubi hasn't announced any requirements for SH5 but i believe that some people in this forum can tell a few things about SH5 even at this point.

@AVGWarhawk
As far as the HD capacity is concerned i was thinking the same thing. On the other hand, i'm a little concerned about the memory of the video card and the bad news are that i can't find anything better. By the way how are you sure that 512Mb is fine? I'm just asking.

Thank you all for answering.

We do know a bit. Its an evolution from the SH4 engine supposedly. Not a completely different one, but definitely not the same either.

The problem is you could spend the 900 - and still not have a machine that will run sh5, or you sould spend the 600 and be find. Unless we can get some idea of their target hw requirements, bigger is better.

Honestly, your going to probably be ok with the 600 machine. However, I doubt you will be able to run SH5 at max. The 900 machine should be alot more "pretty" and smooth, based purely on the difference in vid cards.

Its a safe bet that they won't require more than 892, as thats the "standard" for nvidia's 200 class. There is also a bigger difference than you realize in the 2 chips. The clock speed is one thing, but the P7350 is actually much faster due to the higher amount of L3 (onboard) cache.

I have to advise - given the SH5 isssue - to go with the more powerful machine if you cannot wait. Long term, its going to last you more as a game machine than the 600 will.

Either is fine for today's games. But what about the games of tommorow? SH5 isn't here today.

No matter which machine you get UBI will not claim support or functionality of any of their games on a laptop.

Doesent mean it wont work but they never have or never will.

The video cards in laptops are just not the same as in desktops for obvious reasons.

I must say you confused me. The good news are that i've managed to add 200euros to my account thus i'm thinking very seriously of buying the expensive one...

Too seriously.

I run SH4 with an EVGA 9800 512mb card. All sliders set on high. 60+ FPS. I do not see SH5 being any more of a strain that SH4 is. Therefore, I'm confident SH5 will play just fine with 512mb on the vid card.

Well, that sounds reassuring. Unfortunately the model i was going to buy is not available anymore. This means that i'm going for the expensive one. {sigh}

I will be very surprised if SH5 is not more demanding than SH4. When has there ever been a successor that has not been more hungry for hardware?

The first one is the best choice for SH5, although at that prize you could build a monster desktop, way, way better than any of those laptops.

I guess that it will be more demanding but not too demanding. Lets not forget that the recommended setting for SH4 was 256Mb. Who knows, its very possible that a card with 512Mb and DirectX 10 will be able to play the game fluently.
