Default hard drive crash, now I can't install SH4

Hey guys,

I had a WD Raptor HD crash in my PC just a few days ago. There wasn't much on it, except the installs of a few games, etc. Now I want to reinstall SH4 on my other main drive, but the CD won't let me install. Any ideas? I'm guessing I just need to get rid of SH4 in the registry, but I'm not sure where in it and I know enough to not muck around.

Thanks for your help!
Dave

I feel your pain drupps. I had a total hard drive failure 2 weeks ago and had to replace it and start fresh. If you didn't wipe the hard drive, I'm certain that you may have a problem with the registry. Have you considered one of theose registry cleaners? I've never used one myself. So I can't really advise you on it. But I do know that there are links to some of these tools which may be helpful. Don't know of any myself. If you had to repartition/reformat your drive the registry wouldn't matter.

The drive that crashed was just a small Raptor hard drive that only had game installs on it. So the rest of my PC is fine. The only probably is Sh4 thinks it is still installed even with the hard drive out of the pc. I'll try a registry cleaner. Thanks.

Alright I finally got it work. I used CCleaner to clean the registry and then I had it uninstall SH4. It worked. Now I'll reinstall and get back under the sea!

CCleaner

Quote:
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

For future ref. Good to hear you are back in action.

I find Auslogic has great freeware defrag, registry cleaner, registry defrag programs. These run with Vista also.
