Icon12 What a ride!!!

After many months of not playing (or just playing very little) SH3 and having a campaign stop in a middle of a patrol, decided to occupy spare time and return to end the patrol.
Type VIIB, since the beginning of the war,now middle of 1940, Western Approaches. Did the rest of the patrol and the spark of playing was reignited, so began to play more.
More patrols, more attacks and even more failed ons. New base at St. Nazaire and retirement.
Before trying the All the Type VII Boats Mod, let's play one campaign with the big ones, so middle of 1940, 2nd flotilla, type IXB.
First patrol to BF19-lets go.
Yesterday pick up my save, going to my destination. In the Western Approaches, AM something (can remember the correct grid) a convoy. Al right, calculated a intersect course and went for it.
Detected the convoy, tried to maneuver close in day light and dive to attack. SO far so good and then the convoy changes course and maneuvers away from me. Damn, can not chase it at 3 knots. Steered away and then surface to do a dogs turn.
Manage that and found the convey next day. Dive again and few time after, the convoy change course again. But this time towards me.
Nice, so let in come. After the normal maneuvers and inside the escort scree, selected the targets and waited. When going to do the last measures and attack, that darn side escort detects me (how???). Still had time to launch the 4 torpedoes and dive. Normally I go strait to the convoy, for the amount of ships and noise (not know if the game does that) to confound the escorts, also not know if in real life this would be a tactic.
But this time decided to steer way, 80m depth.
A few depth charges but noting serious and near. Going right, going left and fine. Then, the escort manages to pass right above me and...damages all over the ship and flooding... Arrgh.
So in seeing what is damage and repairing it, the main pump is damage and the boat starts sinking. All head flank and surface order, and noting. So...blow main balast!!!
Noting, still going down, and I thought, well nice fast campaign!!! Reach 224m and the boat started to rise!!! In the mean time, the main pump was repaired and started manage the flooding .
Tried to stabilized at 100m and go silent running, but the boat still heavy, went down again. Blow more balast and after a few times, it stabilized at 104m.
All this time the escort only did one attack and then lost me. Manage to get way and after a few hours surfaced. Periscopes destroyed, radio also and diesel damage. Repaired the engines and all the rest and decided to go home. (Think that would the the corrected course of acting in real life).
Forgot to tell you, I manage to hit 2 ships and skin them. Was happy, one large tanker and a medium cargo for 17000T. Went to the map and saw...grey icons... neutral. Lovelly, how to explain this to Unkle Karl...
When arriving to port, CTD!!!
Lovely afternoon...friday the 13th!!!

hehe, nice! Yea, those sneaky CTDs can be really annoying.. Also the reason why I stopped my last career prematurely thanks to a bug the CTD has caused. Now I am eagerly waiting for the guys to finish their WAC5.0 bomb! Pretty sure this one won't CTD as often as the other stuff, knock on wood :P
