Default [WIP] USS Triton SS(R)N-586

I always wanted to do this boat, as a mod for everyone to appreciate her size, and a tribute to her groundbreaking circumnavigation of the globe (...and 'cause I always thought she was kinda pretty)
insofar, she is ALL (and i mean all) Scratchbuilt, so dont be too harsh on the criticism, it's almost 3 AM, and I've been working on this boat all night.

*edits to the hull since the pictures have been taken,
I made more of a rise in the bulges since the screenies were shot.
The bow has also been sharpened. (I think the correct term is softened, it looks more like it does in my blueprints)

EDIT: Believe me or not, this perticular model started out as a really really long rectangle!
The bulges, the rudder venturi, and the Diveplane brace on the stern were added after the hull was completed

@Cello, its not just making mods, you gotta know what you want to change, add, or wahtever you please to play with. PM me, I'll try to help any way I can

@Ivank, Haven't touched it since it FUBARed on the loading screens, Fer said hed look at it, but I think hes occupied you know?

okay, back on topic....

SHE LIVES! SHE BREATHES!
and I forgot to take screenies
I was too busy figuring out the draught and so on to take a few pics. besides, she's all black, it's just a shape with no AO map or texture. That'll change though.

since I am also working on the nautilus, does this really make me the father of the SUBSIM nuclear navy?!
there were other nukes before these, but I'm taking the time to build the first ones

EDIT: of course, quick loading times plus an itchy periscope depth finger...well....see for yourself. I have yet to make the torpedo tubes.

Stern Details, my prouder moment

the only thing UBI still has on this boat are the screws and the fore dive planes

We keep adding subs, which is great btw, but we'd need real missiles, land targets other than harbors and someone to make a real NUKE CAMPAIGN.

just my 2 cents

btw : the bow really looks like the one from those WWI Dreadnoughts.

The bow is made like that to improve seakeeping, this was before we had the ability to keep subs underwater for indefinate times, so the Triton was built to have enough seakeeping ability on the surface.
I followed my set of blueprints when i made the 3d model, so it SHOULD be within a few feet of her real size

Thanks for showing a continued interest in my little project, Franklin. But it seems like every time I want to work on my SH4 stuff, my computer ends up in another state.

I'll be looking into continuing work on the project though, once my computer makes it back here near the end of the year.
I use a battery of programs to build my boats and unfortunately I've never shaken the texture mapping problems that I have. Seeing as how I taught myself how to MAKE the models and then apply textures and so on, I've completely missed how to make it all work together in the SH4 universe. Right now though I'm concentrating in jumpstarting my life in Illinois again, before I go back to working on my boats.

This is understandable! Gotta keep your priorities straight and get the important stuff done.

Have you considered handing off the model and textures to someone who specializes in that, or do you prefer to launch your boats on your own? While I do support teamwork for the benefit of the community, I also understand (as an artist and writer) that there's something special at doing something yourself. Either way, I'll be watching this thread and can't wait to take the con when she's out! I don't know why, but I find the Nautilus, Triton, and K-19 to be attractive boats. Their straight bows and towers look cool!
