hey guys, I was playing sh3 and I'm in the 7th flotilla and I wanted to head out of the bay. as I was approaching Pililau. Then a friendly mindsweeper started shooting at me! Then other ships starting shooting at me and each other and they were all German! Why was this happening? this happened in Pillau on august 3 1939.

Trigger happy swine!
In some books I've read, the U-boats started to take "friendly fire" in the late war, 1943-44, when attacks against the german land forces and occupied naval bases began to increase in frequency and success. A large part no doubt, because they were drafting younger troops (15-16 yr olds) and shorter training times to get them to the front as fast as possible, inexperience can be a killer.
Maybe they were overly enthusiastic in their salute of you and your gallant crew that they literally couldn't contain themselves....

Did you shoot at or sink any of the 'free' target ships in the bay? Any green sunk icons on your nav map?

They are considered by the AI to be neutrals at that time so you have made an enemy of your own/every side for 24 hrs.

Hide out away from any contacts for one full day and then go back to port - all will be forgotten.

Don't forget the WAR doesn't start until 1st September, 1939, at the earliest (for the Poles) and 3rd September for the Brits and French (and other Commonwealth shortly afterwards).

As Kielhauler1961 said, any friendly or neutral ship you sink will cause that country's ships to shoot at you for 24 hours. The opposite is also true. Sometimes ships shooting at you will accidentally hit one of their own. Then you can sit back and watch them kill each other.

Love when that happens during a convoy with a BB. Let the Destroyer's get killed while I sneak up and grab me a juicy Nelson.
