Default TMO: What can kill you in the Sunda Strait?

Something just blew me out of the water in the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra.

TMO/RSRDC, July '42 --- Was passing at standard speed on the surface to the NW of the small island that bisects the strait at about 2200 hours when all hell broke loose. Had just completed a sonar check prior to entering, and it was clean. Too late for airplanes.

Mine? Coastal gun? Submarine?????

Any similar experiences?

I guess it's dangerous to travel on the surface that close to shore....

Coastal Gun batteries, they are on the island in the middle of the strait in addition to being on the coast of sumatra on the west side of the strait.there are also mines there during the mid to late war area to prevent subs from transiting submerged.

Oh, thanks. I'll check again but I was thinking the map (attached to radio) does not show the area mined. Appreciate the "heads up!"
