It is not sufficient anymore to just cruise along the surface at high time compression without some sort of hydrophone check . I use Trevally Automated Scripts v0.6 .

Attacking straggling ships left behind from an escorted convoy is not as a safe as you think.

Even with the convoy 10-15 kms out, they will send a DD or two to steam back at full speed in an attempt to get you. Don't be caught on the surface! Even two DD's can sweep the entire area around the (hopefully by now) sunk merchant(s)... I had a close encounter and had to crash dive. And when I thought i was safe, another DD, which i had no idea was there nearly ran over my periscope.

I'd say its frighteningly real enough. Brilliant work TDW!

1. Attacking unescorted convoys (15-20 merchants) sends the whole group into complete disarray. Some ships seem to go nuts and go full speed from one column into the next, causing what looks like mass confusion. They get their wits back after a fashion, but by then you should already be positioned for another attack.

2. I attacked a small convoy a good 30km from a nearby harbor, east England. And like the previous scenario, the "harbor defenders" came steaming straight at me. Took them a while to get to the scene, and i was well away from the area, but they came alright.

I'll try to get screenies for samples.

One tactic i use is running the engines with just 30rpm. Its possible to get them down to 30 rpm if you select just 1 knots ahead.
