Wake Island was in Japanese possession from December 23, 1941 through September 4, 1945. While pounded mercilessly by US carriers several times, and probably did not have much of any air cover left by then, they probably had something to throw at you through late 1944.
The big thing though is v0.71 has a "slightly" (
) overly aggressive plane layer, that should be more "normal" in the next update, due shortly.
