I have a save game for one of these type events. I saved before the attack started.

That is an Artificial "Intelligence" problem. Most planes, when attacking, do not know how to properly fly their airplanes, unless they are set to "Elite" status, and even at that, will still occasionally "stall" their planes, as you guys have witnessed. Anything lower than "Elite", and the planes, besides not seeing things", have issues even staying in the air when they turn. The big problem comes in with planes attached to ships, such as CV or CA, etc., is that plane assumes the competency of the ship, such that a CV that is "Competent" (middle setting) "launches" planes that are also "Competent", and they have issues making the first attack run, much less turning and making a 2nd run. "Eets-uh Catch-uh 22-uh..." This is one reason that you'll see most of the CV and similar set to "Veteran" level. So, you can either have "Ducimus' Super-Evil Planes", along with a ship they are attached to that will be capable of dodging any torpedo you shoot, and able to shoot your periscope lense out at 2500 yards within 30 seconds, and / or send a volley of torps of their own your way -OR- have "normal" ship AI, and planes that will occasionally crash on attack runs (which did happen in real life)... ??
