Total Germany - British Supplies Help

Helly everyone :)

I bought SH5 via amazon download 2 weeks ago and i've run into a problem with the british supplies mission in th first campaign, total germany. I went down to the designated area and began to hunt down freighters, but for some reason, the progress bar does not fill,or seemingly fills at random. I've already sunk 2 large convoys in the area that exceeded the required 100k tonnes by far,but the progress bar did not fill.

So,are there certain types of freighters that i must sink or doe they have to come from a certain direction to count towards the required tonnage or does that not matter?

Also, could be because of the FX Update mod i've installed? I made sure to install it while in the base and not being on an active mission.

I hope someone can help me with my problem, thanks in advance :)

Hiya,

All's i can think offhand is you could be just too far out of required area (range) to get the kills, not totaaly sure on vanilla career but is there a 60k radius on some areas you get assigned to ?

Besides that no idea from memory

ps : Now you've got the amazon sh5, get the tdw generic patcher installed to fix many things and if you use the tdw's newui's install the options file editor viewer

And of course, OH2.5 + Grid patch and also OH 2.3 flag wind patch :yep:

:salute:

Thanks for answering :)
Yes,i'm well within the designated patrol area,so there shouldn't be any problem. When i did the first part of the campagin, the raid on the british coastal lines, every freighter i destroyed was properly added to the required tonnage. That's why i'm so confused about it not working for this mission as well.

I'll check out the generic patcher and see if that could help. As for OHII 2.5,i had it installed for a while, but it caused a ton of problems for me,wich is why i removed it again. I'm still using TDW's UI though.

I'm playing The western Approaches and I have the same issue - no movement on the progress bar. I just upgraded some of the major MODS, while in port, and it affected it. I'm told that if you change OH or IRAI or maybe even TDWNew UIs you may have to either start a new career or wait until the next stage.

Shroomworks 06-29-14 07:26 AM

Hmm,i haven't upgraded either of these mods, only added the FX Update, but i'm not sure if that could have such an impact.

I am stuck on this mission as well, is there a certain rule to what ships you have to sink within the area?

I by chance encountered three tankers within the 600KM radius area that the British Supplies mission circle is. All three of them were headed north, only two counted for tonnage. Then i intercepted a convoy and sank 110~ tonnes of it, ZERO counted. This was a convoy headed northeast that came in from the southwest. Within 100KM of the British Supplies map marker.

Is this a bugged mission or is there some trick to it? Thats the second convoy i sink in within the area heading northeast that does not count.

No mods whatsoever, complete stock game.

*edit* ended patrol and selected British Supplies as mission, went to the target patrol area and sank a ship in it, got Patrol Complete green message and all, didnt count towards the tonnage needed... So i guess i have encountered some bug?

I have SH5 and loaded the "Open Horizons" mod.

I have found out that if you use the compass, and make a 108 km circle around your designated area, all you have to do is sink one ship within the circle and within say 4 day patrol time, otherwise you'll be asigned another area and you have to start over with the 108 km circle. Then you can proceed to an area where you know convoys pass and have a "field day" while at the same time fulfilling the tonnage requirement.

As i said i finished the patrol but it didnt count, i sank another freighter after that and it didnt count either.

However stumbled upon a small convoy of three ships, two of them i could not identify http://i.imgur.com/NIDGYgk.png (not in the TDC torps didnt hit at 4 meter depth) and sank them all and it counted, since that ALL merchants i kill within the huge circle counts... I just.. what? I

Hi Guys

It has been a while since I last reported on the tonnage bar issue so I thought it would be a good opportunity to bring you up to date with my findings.

I am pretty sure that saved games is the key.

Synchronising the saved games I believe is partly or totally responsible for the failures.

I have found that it does not matter whether you play on line or off line.

What is important is that your games are always taken from your local saves and this means that they do not get synchronised.

Game saves can come in 3 parts.

Autosave Enter Base (AEB) this is the one where you meet the Flotilla Leader.

Autosave In Game (AIG) these are automatic game saves that occur every 25 minutes.

AIG saves where you make a manual save in between the automatic AIG saves.

The automatic AIG save disregards the time you made your manual save.

Manual saves are never overwritten by the automatic AIG save.

The last save when you exit the game is stored in your SaveGame folder.

You can find this by going to your:

My Documents folder

SH5 folder

Data folder

Cfg folder

SaveGames folder

In this folder is stored all the information only for the main Mission i.e. British Coastal Waters and only also all patrols that are associated with it.

Your game save information is copied to the particular patrol that you are doing i.e South Western Approaches (SWA).

So having finished North Western Approaches and the tonnage bar fills correctly I then go on 3 independent patrols while I wait for SWA patrol to appear on January 1st 1940.

I make sure that I end the patrol each time and do not select refit as I believe it is better to keep the information being updated to a minimum.

I am in SWA and I sink a Uekel SPT 1,765 tons 1940-01-15 08.46 hours and check the tonnage bar and nothing.

I sink the same ship another 4 times with all different variations that I can think of to no avail and give up and resign myself to not having the tonnage bar working which as we now know is not essential anyway.

I then pick up a large convoy and sink a Liberty Cargo 7,174 tons 1940-01-16 09.31 hours and a SV Medium Freighter 7,840 tons 1940-01-16 also 09.31 hours.

To my surprise both register on the tonnage bar.

All 3 sinkings show correctly recorded in the Captain’s Log.

When I go to the SaveGame folder only 2 of the ships sunk are showing for 15,010 tons.

Now when I check through the data for SWA I now find that there are only 6 target types of ships recorded.

On some other sets of data shows the port the ships left and the port where they are going to.

So I am seeing now for the first time why although inside the patrol area some ships are recorded on the tonnage bar and others do not count.

Unfortunately I do not understand the 3 digit type numbers of the ships that are correct.

Also as far as the data in the SaveGames folder I may know where the ship has come from but I am not going to know its destination.

So you can see why I believe the saved games have an impact on the tonnage bar.

Peter

Welcome Ew :-)

Ew_ 02-01-15 07:28 PM

Right i did some testing based on speculations i found googling the tonnage bar "bugs" and the conclusion is... not so good.

Apparently Silent Hunter 5 is running an active DRM that downloads a flag from Ubisofts servers each kill/mission/patrol/refit you do. If you have a pirated version you can not download this flag and thus you cannot proceed with the missions (thats the idea)

This is what happend when i disabled syncronized savefiles or set Uplay/steam to offline or unplug internet : http://i.imgur.com/YbsHpg9.png .. Yeah it doesnt even count the tutorial ships.

It would seem as if the game timeouts/fails to download this flag very often if you are in online mode and such the kills do not count. So its down to DRM hurting only legit customers with wonky ubisoft drm servers.

Yay.. :/\\!! Also this corrupts the serverside saved save files, which you cannot delete.

*edit*
I deleted all local saves/profiles in My Documents and in Uplay, i also deleted all of Uplays cache, validated game files in steam and launched it enabling All Uplay online functions and cloud saves and allow Uplay proxy (automatic). Uplay prompted me that my cloud saved games and local saved games were inconsistent and asked which to load, i picked Local saves and started, ingame it still synced the last saved profile i had. Exited SH5 and checked, there were no local saves anywhere. So i started SH5 again and created a new profile, and Behold! http://i.imgur.com/kudiKKf.png it counted the kills. It would seem as if not fallowing the tutorial level to the letter corrupts the cloud saved savefiles as well. Especially the periscope thing, dont move it before it prompts you to. Dont do anything until it promts you to. And to not make any manual saves until you undock from Kiel.

On my way to the British Supplies now, gonna see how it holds together this time, will report back. Also hah good idea dear freighter.. http://i.imgur.com/E1wUoo2.png

*edit 2* Patrol area reached, encounter a large convoy in the middle of it immidiately! ENGAGE!
-Start to line up some torpedoes aaaand the convoy despawns, completely vanishes as if it never was there http://i.imgur.com/blZUA5Q.png
-Reload the automatic save that occured once i had lined up my sub there, weather much worse this time. Ah convoy comes again! http://i.imgur.com/9lQfnR5.png
-Line up some torps on other ships of the convoy, aaaand http://i.imgur.com/Xf5OEEu.png gone... This is just my luck :|.

THEBERBSTER 02-02-15 05:50 AM

Hi Ew

Whether you are synced or not there is always a game saved in the SaveGames folder providing either an AIG save or a manual save has been made before you exit the game.

When you choose to use a synced game a save is still made to your local saved games as a backup.

When you go off line for the first time your local saved game is used.

When you exit the game you are now out of sync with the server.

That is why the next time you load the game you are asked to choose where the game saves should be taken from.

As far as the tutorial goes this has to be played the first time you play the game so the CareerHistory CFG file can be created.

If a backup copy of this file is saved and you need to reinstall the game at a later date this CFG file can be copied back to save having to do the tutorial again.

If by this Quote > ingame it still synced the last saved profile i had. you are referring to the synced games message before you see the main menu then this always happens.

The other thing that you have to remember is that the Stock game you are playing is full of bugs.

Until you use a modded interface and use other mods that fix things then you will continue to have things happening that do not make sense.

The one bug that really annoyed me when I first played the Stock game was the escort that would suddenly start to follow me wherever I was going and I could not shake it off until I reloaded the last game save again.
