[REL] Smoke & Particles Mod for SH4/TMO

Some changes to the particle effects - mostly to the smoke, but fire and explosions have also been tweaked to be more dramatic. It's designed for Trigger Maru Overhaul; it seems to work OK with the stock game. However, it has not been tested with other supermods. Install is self-explanatory. Special thanks to Ducimus for TMO. Please post questions or problems here instead of sending PM's. Enjoy.

Holy Crap!

Wowie Zowie, now them there are some serious smoke effects, may give this one a try before too much longer.

EDIT: By the way, what's up with the half-naked bridge and gun crew? Is that a mod and does it have a.. well... an optional form? :03:

The screens were taken while I was also testing crew injuries for my WWI mod, "Wolves of the Kaiser". As the name suggests, I'm planning to add various minor injuries to the crew when your submarine is damaged. Just to be clear, this is NOT part of the smoke mod. The smoke mod does not affect crew appearance in any way.

Ok, that sounds pretty cool actually, thanks for taking my little joke in stride.

The smoke looks really good. Does your mod change the height and/or persistance aspects? What I mean to ask, does it make it easier to see a burning ship from far away?

iambecomelife,
Thanks for this great effect's Mod. I'm using it with Travellers Mod 2.3 for TMO, and it adds a spark ( pun intended ) to the eye candy
captnmike :-)!

Yes - particle lifetime has been increased, upwards velocity has been increased, and particle weight has been decreased.

If you damage a ship badly enough to start a fire, it will be much easier to find from a distance than it is in the stock game. This is useful if you damage a ship and get forced down by escorts before you can finish it off

Nice! :yep:

Actually, because the smoke is more opaque than the stock smoke or TMO smoke, your performance may actually be better with it. According to one tester for my SH3 smoke mod from several years ago, it's opacity that causes a big performance hit, and not the detail level of the smoke .tga or .dds file.

I guess this new smoke is wind affected?

EDIT: after trying it, it seems other boats chemney smoke is changed too...it looks darker and more compact imo. Maybe slightly higher?

Nice Work Iambecome but i saw there some problems.
Small Fire uses the same Smoketexture.

I created this Smoke in a new way.
Only the smoke from Big Fire is affected and this smoke was generated with 3 Textures.
Here is my work.

With this kind of Smokegeneration you will also see the fireshining at the smoke´s base and the smoke disappears better and in a very fine way in the athmosphere.

Regards

Maddy
