Sinking Neutral Ships

It's early in the war and I come across a neutral ship at night, is there a penalty for sinking neutral ships in the game? Will it go towards my tonnage needed for my patrol mission? How does sinking neutral shipping work in game? I know in real life it happened by accident or not, lol.

I am also using OHII-Full.

Sinking neutrals gets you a renown penalty I believe. It's part of the game, if you make a mistake, that can be a part of war.
I do not know if it will be added to you tonnage though, you can check for yourself by going to:
C/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 5\data\Scripts\AI\Events\GAMEPLAY_ShipSunk
So this will tell you what the game tallied for that neutral.

and don't sink any allied ship! It gives you nasty CTD:arrgh!:. Remember that Polish ship after October 5, 39 is allied.

Yeah, I'm sure he meant Axis ships. CTD's?? I didn't know that. I nearly sank a Polish ship myself after the Warsaw date. I gotta try that sometime, I wonder if the crew rebels....

yes I mean axis:-?. Yes, attacking Polish ships gives CTD. I sank a Polish ship in the Kiel canal with the result that I could not use the canel anymore during my campaign. When I approached the site of the sinking, I got CTD:stare:

Thanks guys, I clearly identified the ship as neutral. Just patrol is early in war and not much to sink.

Following Situation in SH5 TWOS gives me something to think of:

On 20. Aug I sank a sweden freighter with illumed lights. I don't dive but proceed to 3000m surfaced. Than the frighter is sending a SSS-Message. I got my orders (see below) and sank the ship.

At 17. Aug. 1940 Hitler annouced the total blockade of UK for any ship. TWOS mod does put it in the game. Very nice!

Since then is it legal to sink any neutral ship in the TWOS Mod upto the 20'W?
What is if the ship is additionally sending a SSS Message?
How does the mod manage this fact?

In the german wikipedia article to the U-Boat War it is said, that is was possible to travel over a "Schwedenweg" (sweden way) for neutral shipping without being attacked.

I seached the Internet for the orignial order from OKW or BdU or more detailed information about this but I havent got any success.

Somebody here who could help?

Hi Jojo,

Unfortunately, vast majority of radio messages are just here for your personal knowledge, and don’t affect gameplay.

Meaning in reality Hitler decided the total blockage of Great Britain and plenty U-Boats sunk Norwegian/Swedish/Greek ect ships within the area and they all were added to the victories.
But in TWOS, if you sink such ship, it’s counted as neutral everywhere.
Just as in every Silent Hunter by the way.

An SSS message is to tell i have been attacked by a submarine.

Thanks for helping.

But I havent attacked the frighter first an I recieved an red "Submarine sighted" intercept when I was about 3000 m in front of the swedish frighter.
In an historical context this would be another reason to sink the ship, wasnt it?

Have somebody ever heard of the "Schwedenweg" for neutral shipping?
