Sinking Neutral Ships

It's early in the war and I come across a neutral ship at night, is there a penalty for sinking neutral ships in the game? Will it go towards my tonnage needed for my patrol mission? How does sinking neutral shipping work in game? I know in real life it happened by accident or not, lol.

I am also using OHII-Full.

Sinking neutrals gets you a renown penalty I believe. It's part of the game, if you make a mistake, that can be a part of war.
I do not know if it will be added to you tonnage though, you can check for yourself by going to:
C/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 5\data\Scripts\AI\Events\GAMEPLAY_ShipSunk
So this will tell you what the game tallied for that neutral.

and don't sink any allied ship! It gives you nasty CTD

. Remember that Polish ship after October 5, 39 is allied.

surely Polish ships are axis ships not allied?

Yeah, I'm sure he meant Axis ships. CTD's?? I didn't know that. I nearly sank a Polish ship myself after the Warsaw date. I gotta try that sometime, I wonder if the crew rebels....

. Yes, attacking Polish ships gives CTD. I sank a Polish ship in the Kiel canal with the result that I could not use the canel anymore during my campaign. When I approached the site of the sinking, I got CTD

Thanks guys, I clearly identified the ship as neutral. Just patrol is early in war and not much to sink.
