Thanks

You got a screen resolution of 1024x600. SH3's minimum is 1024x768. Therefore you have about 172000 pixels less then SH3 expects. Besides using a different computer, an external monitor is your only option. Don't want to sound negative, but it's possible that even with a monitor the notebook could not provide the resolution you want. Check before buying one!

thanks mate thats clear! looks like this netbook is going back!

SORTED IT!!!!!!!

Have a look at this link

http://cegeekbook.blogspot.com/2010/06/1024x768-resolution-on-netbook-with.html

This details how to fool your Netbook into displaying more than it should. It dose mean editing your reg!!! which comes with its own risks. If you use the information contained within this link its down to you!!!! I did and it worked on my Netbook.
Thanks for all your help

Interesting...but does SH3 work? I could imagine a lot of reasons to crash if it is told that there are 768 lines, but 168 do not exist...and how does the game look? I calculate that every 4th or 5th line is not shown?
I just tried get the answer myself by resizing a screenshot to 1024x600. It looks stretched, blurry and blocky but it's certainly playable and better than nothing.
If SH3 runs stable, Congratulations!

I had this same error when launching the game. The ONLY thing I did to fix the problem was to set my monitor refresh rate from 59 to 60 hertz. Problem Solved!

Check the Windows 7 thread, and update your drivers. Other than that... it should work. Is it fully patched to 1.4?

I had the "can not initialize 3D engine" error but due to reading these posts I had set screen resolution via Nvidia control panel to 1024x768 and SH3 normally starts and works. And I do not see any differences with previous on Windows xp x86.
Current configuration :
AMD Phenom 2 X6 1090T
Geforce GTX 280
Native screen resolution 1920x1200
Windows Ultimate x64, but please note this is localized version for Russia, although I suppose it is does not matter.
It seems after start SH3 defines the resolution itself and I do not know what is maximum for SH3.

It was originally coded for 1024x768, but there is a hi-res fix which allows you to take it up to your native resolution.

Glad you got the error sorted and welcome aboard! :sunny:
