A cat?

Oh and yes, she is the same ship that was torpedoed. On the night 9 May/10 May 1940, during the Battle of Norway, Kelly was torpedoed amidships by the German E-boat S 31, under command of Oberleutnant zur See Hermann Opdenhoff (for which action Oblt.z.S. Opdenhoff was awarded the Knight's Cross). Severely damaged, she was taken under tow by the tug Great Emperor and for four days she was attacked by E-boats and bombers as she struggled back to port at three knots.

Belonging to Felidae, yes a cat.

Catfish 11-25-20 08:56 AM

No.

Jimbuna 11-25-20 09:02 AM

A domestic cat type?

Catfish 11-25-20 09:08 AM

No, wild.
It is said some have been tamed "in a way", one of those was an engineer of the Graf Goetzen.

Aktungbby 11-25-20 09:17 AM

an african cat species?

Catfish 11-25-20 09:19 AM

Yes sorry, i just saw that Jim asked for an african wild cat, so yes it is an african cat species (so a "wild cat", but none of the smaller wild cats of Africa as seen on Jim's photo, whose descendants live in Europe as domestic cats nowadays).

(OT I always talk of "our guest with migration background", which of course refers to our non-trustworthy house-tom-cat and his african ancestors). Those immigrants are eating us out of house and home i tell you.

Jimbuna 11-25-20 09:25 AM

Found in Tanzania?

Catfish 11-25-20 09:31 AM

^ Yes, but not only.
Edit: yes also in Tanzania. Must be, if one of the german engineers "adopted" one.

Catfish 11-25-20 09:54 AM

Hey this should be easy by now, it is all in this thread. Literally :O:

Aktungbby 11-25-20 10:15 AM

well:hmmm: in looking up nine species of Tanzanian cats incl. Genets, the only one that comes close with wispy 'mane' and rounded as opposed to pointy Serval ears, is the East African subspecies of cheetah.

Catfish 11-25-20 10:23 AM

Congratulations!

And it was here all the time ...:

Had a great day with the granddaughter so I'll take your second guess :03:[...]
Over to the cheetah :O:

If someone had asked for speed or the fastest animal... and no one asked for the age of said feline, and the Cheetah pups have indeed a mane like a mohawk :haha:

The east-african cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus:

Over to Aktungbby! :salute:

(OT don't remember the name, but one of the Graf Goetzen's engineers or constructors made friends with a cheetah back in 1913, at the Tanganyka lake)
