What happened to the manual |
Dogfish40 10-06-10 at 12:26 PM |
Can someone direct me to the manual?! I clicked on everything in the Zip file and I cannot come up with directions how to use this. It looks great, but I think I need some hints on using it.
Thanks anyone.

Keeps crashing with "out of memory" errors on my Windows XP -- and I've got four megs -- more than the system can technically even use. Sad. |

MoBo willnot install. Window pop up says "some files are mising? |
aaronblood 06-17-09 at 08:50 PM |
Nothing to install... but if you get a message that says some files are missing when you try to run the executable it's probably because the .net framework is missing from your OS.
The .Net Framework comes standard on Vista and automagically gets updated as you update Vista. If you're not running Vista you might not have the latest framework installed, but you can D/L it for free. I believe the latest version is 3.5 and it's like a 2.9MB file.
Install the framework and the app should run fine. I don't distribute it with MoBo cuz most folks just have it already installed in their OS without them even trying. |

You can get the framework from several sources, 3.5 SP1 is available here from filehippo:

Installed the framework and updates. Still won't run. ( I'm 55 and no computer wizz .) I unzipped MoBo to the Silent Hunter 4 folder and clicked on the icon that looks like a TV . Click install, same window pops up. " Cannot download app. the app. is missing required files.
thanks for your help. |

I'm not sure why you unzipped it to the SH4 folder. It's not an addon to SH4; it's a standalone application. But yes, you can use it for SH3, SH4, Dangerous Waters, or whatever you like...
All you should have to do is unzip it to your desktop which should just create a folder "MoBo_BeTa", then inside the folder doulbe-click the MoBo.exe file (the one with the ships wheel icon) and the program will run. It doesn't install, you could run it straight from a USB flashdrive if you wanted to.
I think you're just clicking on the wrong file. |

Do not click on any icons that look like TV's... click on the file that looks like a helm (ships wheel) and says MoBo on it. |

I got it thanks for your help. I thought it some how replaced the nav map on the SH 4 sim. Reading the manual now, may have more questions in the future. |

MOBO pdf file, is that the manual? I can't get it open with adobe. |
aaronblood 04-01-11 at 06:23 PM |
The English manual is here in the utility section:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...do=file&id=649
It's a zipped pdf file. So you need to unzip it, and then open the pdf with adobe. My adobe reader 9 still opens it and reads it just fine. |

It's a nice idea, and it looks cool, but it's a real hog. I dragged an item one inch on the map and it allocated 500 megabytes of memory. It's also slow (likely due in part to the excessive memory allocation causing constant garbage collection). There should be no memory allocation required to drag an item on the map! You could really do with some optimization work! :-P |

I think it would go a long way to simply reuse the same Bitmap objects rather than allocating new ones on every render. As it is, the program is basically unusable on my machine (1.6ghz core duo, 1GB ram).
I also found a number of crash bugs and other issues, but those are less important. |

500 MB? sounds odd... I haven't seemed to have any of the problems you mentioned. Some day when I'm bored I'll rewrite it in C+. |

Sorry, wasn't sure people were still using this... I'll fix the links. |

Does this program still exist? Just tried to download, sent me to a page that says "404 - Not Found". |
