Real Weather Fix Mod.
By Stiebler and SubType Zero.
DESCRIPTION.
The mod provides a sophisticated variant for the default weather pattern found in Silent Hunter III. We have tested it (and countless variants) very thoroughly. Our objective has been to try to reduce the number of paralyzing severe storms (thick fog, winds of 15 m/s). We do not use the 'obvious' changes to weather found in the campaign_RND.mis, campaign_LND.mis and campaign_SCR.mis files, since these appear to provide unsatisfactory fixed alternatives that seem always to end in long periods of heavy storms.
Instead, we have chosen to alter the file scene.dat. This is the controlling file, and changes to the campaign files merely seed the weather algorithm.
PRINCIPLE.
Since scene.dat is a data file, and has been extensively altered by many different mods, no single replacement file is sufficient.
Instead, this mod is an executable (.exe) file that will stamp new weather data onto your existing file, and make a back-up (sceneoriginal.dat) of the original file.
In addition, since some other mods have altered the weather parameters at the top of the three campaign_xyz.mis files, RealWeatherFix Mod will restore the stock settings for weather. Again, the original files will be renamed as campaign_LND.bak, campaign_RND.bak and campaign_SCR.bak.
USE OF MOD.
The preferred method, if you use J.Scones' JSGME mod enabler, is this:
1. In your folder 'silenthunteriii\mods' create a new folder 'RealWeatherFixMod'. Within this folder create another folder, 'data'. Copy your existing file 'scene.dat' into the new folder 'data'.
2. Then copy across into this new folder 'data': the 'campaigns' folder and all its contents (including the sub-folder 'campaign') from your existing folder 'silenthunteriii\data\'.
3. Place the file RealWeatherFix.exe into your new folder \mods\data.
4. When ready, just double-click on 'RealWeatherFix.exe'. Everything works by itself, very quickly, and you will get an on-screen progress report to show what the program has done.
5. Tidy up the new entries from your new \mods\data folder and its contents (described below), and delete the unwanted messages_en.txt, messages_de.txt, messages_fr.txt (if any)
6. Use JSGME in the ordinary way to copy the 'RealWeatherFixMod' information into the main game files.
7. If anything goes wrong, just disable the mod with JSGME.
If you don't have JSGME, then use this method:
The executable RealWeatherFix.exe MUST be placed in the 'data' folder (use Windows Explorer). By default, that will be found in your SilentHunterIII\data folder. You will find your scene.dat file in the same folder (check it is present). Your campaign files will be found in folder SilentHunterIII\data\campaigns\campaign.
When ready, just double-click on 'RealWeatherFix.exe', as in (4) above.
Whichever method you use, I suggest you tidy-up your files, since there has in the past been speculation (probably unfounded) that SH3 will sometimes try to load back-up files instead of the correct files. Therefore move the back-up files sceneoriginal.dat, campaign_LND.bak, campaign_RND.bak and campaign_SCR.bak to a safe place away from their original folders. Also remove the RealWeatherFix.exe file.
If for some reason you run the mod more than once, the original campaign_xyz.bak files will not be altered, but you will accumulate new files called campaign_LND.misnew, campaign_RND.misnew and campaign_SCR.misnew. These can all be safely deleted.
WHEN PLAYING.
Remember that the weather changes are *random*. All we can do is move the odds in favour of better weather and against storms. The longer the patrol, the longer the wait between weather changes, and we cannot alter that.
WARRANTY.
I (Stiebler) guarantee that this executable file RealWeatherFix.exe contains no code which will deliberately harm your computer. Accidental errors of coding are excluded from this guarantee. There is no other warranty provided. The product is free, and provided in good faith. Use at your own risk.

I don't think so, I just installed GWX 3.0 and had those "crippling storms" appear all the time, so I installed this to get rid of them and it works like a charm.
