- Changed the below listed in-base campaign messages that had no detailed meaning from:
* 'MESSAGE N/A: Unit retired & Good player performance.'
* 'MESSAGE N/A: Unit retired & Bad player performance.'
* 'MESSAGE N/A: Player receive new conning tower.'
to:
* 'Your current U-boat model has been retired, and due to your exemplary performance you have been offered command of the newest model. Do you accept the command (yes), or do you wish to retire?' (no)
* 'Your current U-boat model has been retired, and you have been forced to take a desk job for the rest of the war due to your abysmal performance.'
* 'Your current U-boat model has been upgraded with a new and improved conning tower.'
- Reduced the number of Type IX U-boat external torpedo reserves down to more historical amounts:
- Added my Captain's Office v1.0 mod. Firstly, it spruces up the U-boat Captain's office. The original office still had too much of a Pacific / tropical feel to it when playing U-boat campaigns in Silent Hunter 4. What I did in this mod to give the room a more European feel was darken or change most wood colors, changed the carpet color (no more faded, dirty red carpet!), added a new window view from an actual European photo, and added a scan of an original U-boat grid map for the wall, replacing the Asia / Pacific map.
Secondly, it adds more detailed information to the campaign in-base transfer screen. The transfer information of each available Flotilla will now include the port name, country location, and what U-boat models are available. It was driving me crazy not being able to know which flotillas were where, and what U-boats were available when trying to decide on a transfer. Hopefully this additional information will make things a bit easier.
- Removed health points bonus for crew wearing medals.
- Removed dive planes from list of equipment that Mr. Fix-it can repair after being destroyed.
- Corrected various menu file spelling or grammar mistakes I came across.
- Reverted back to slightly better Allied airbase aircrew skill rating for 1939-1940.
- Increased minimum damage radius of all depth charges.
- Removed the annoying and never-ending Chief Engineer's 'We have flooding' and 'Torpedo tubes destroyed' looping voice messages. Also removed 'Torpedo tubes ready' repair voice messages due to them being in English when using the Das Boot German voice sound mod. All texts will still show in the message box.
- Added my More Frequent Weather Changes v1.1 mod. Makes weather change more quickly. Especially effective at lower time compression speeds of 256x-512x.
- Added my Clouds v1.1 mod. Greatly reduces cloud morphing speeds. Cloud shapes will now change MUCH more slowly than before, but they do change. I think they are now modelled more closely to real-world cloud behavior. Also makes cloud shadows visible now. You will now see cloud shadows on the water, plus they drift around. When passing into a shadow, things will get a bit darker. I tried to adjust it to where the shadows are noticeable, but not too dark. Not really a functional addition, but adds to the atmosphere of the game.
- Greatly lowered underwater visiblity.
- Made nights much darker.
- Changed end-game and event messages to be more related to Germany, U-boats and the Kriegsmarine.
- Medic crew healing will take slightly longer now.
- Injured crew will now be permanently incapacitated and unable to perform duties below 70% health.
- Added all new loading and menu screens. No more American side Pacific artwork. You will now see photos of many famous German U-boat aces that you are familiar with.
- Increased wave sizes and reshaped them. Plus, waves will now have more effect on your U-boat... tossing it around more. This will be especially noticeable now when commanding the Type II boats. They didn't call them 'dugout canoes' for nothing.
V1.6
- Enabled radio room and Captain's bed clickable camera views for Type II and Type VII U-boats. (to reach the radio room in the Type VII, click on the wall compass near the hatch. To reach the control room aft, click on the hanging meat)
- Corrected the missing Type IXA fore external torpedo reserves.
- Lowered maximum torpedo damage by 25%. I've been re-reading 'Hitlers U-boat War' books, and I feel the average number of torps to sink a ship in v 1.5 was still too low.
- Lowered hit points and / or armor ratings for various U-boat equipment that I felt were still too strong. Be extremely careful during surface combat or when aircraft attack. Your engines and other vital equipment are much more vulnerable now.
- Made U-boat batteries more durable. They were getting destroyed too easily.
- Increased U-boat hull integrity hit points (skull and crossbones icon) to create slightly more drawn-out 'ordeals'.
- Added weather reporting campaign missions for Type II U-boats for 1939-1940. You will be asked to send a radio message weather report once every 12 hours. The game doesn't know the difference whether you actually send the reports or not. This is more about role playing. So be a good Kapitan and send those weather reports at the designated times.
- Sharpened up all Type II and Type VII U-boat interior / exterior textures. Also sharpened grey U-boat crew uniforms and hats, and added custom dark wood paneling for the Type II U-boat.
** Important **
Your Mr. Fix-it crewman has the special ability to repair certain destroyed equipment. This list includes the following: Diesel Engines, Electric Motors, Rudders, and Propeller Shafts. Nothing else destroyed is partially repairable, including bulk heads. Once any piece of equipment is destroyed, it will show as a '1', meaning destroyed. All destroyed equipment will show in the damage control team repair box, whether it is actually partially repairable or not. Once the above mentioned repairable equipment is destroyed, it will take a VERY long time to partially repair it. This means it will remain at '1' for quite some time. But don't give up. Mr. Fixit will eventually get it working again.. at least half-way.
