What is this thing?:
This mod changes the way contacts are displayed. It will display aircraft contacts on the nav and attack maps, but ship contacts will be invisible. Because the game does not distinguish between aircraft and surface contacts, either one will result in the same message. I found this annoying when playing with map contacts off, so this is my attempt to find a compromise.
How do I use it?:
You can install this mod using JSGME. Inside the mod, there are a number of folders for aircraft and ships. I included all planes and ships that I had on my hard drive, which included TMO2 and RSRD, in addition to stock. This may not include all ships and aircraft, see Notes section for more info.
Once installed, you set the realism option to show map contacts. Aircraft will show as a black spot at all zoom levels, and surface contacts will not appear.
Sources:
Nisgeis mainly inspired this mod, with his 3D TDC and Radar Range mod. (Who then blew it away with his idea for a proper air search radar)
Notes:
I cannot account for all the ships that have been or may be released. If you have a ship in your game that is not in this mod, you can easily add it. Go into the mod folder, down into Data, and into Sea. Each ship has it's own folder there. Create a new folder <ship> that matches the name of the ship folder being added. Copy the AuxGunboat_shp.dds file from the AuxGunboat folder, and put it into the new folder. Rename it to match the new ship.
The same holds for aircraft and submarines. You will need to copy the same procedure for each new aircraft or sub.
Contact reports will no longer show up on the map. When a contact is reported, you can plot the location on the map yourself, but it will not automatically appear.
