just done a custom mission on the SSN21 and found it to be a lot harder to handle than an akula heres my thoughts.

firstly im amazed at this submarine not only is it unique to the american navy its also unique to the world and its a great submarine.

i did find some problems though it might be cause im new to the acctual sub i found vepr was able to detect and fire at me before i even detected it (i was at 7 knots about 15 miles away) the vepr fired 3 SS-N-27ASW missiles at me all of which failed to sink me.

i came in close finaly getting new contact at 7 miles range shortly after i got the dredded TIW warning the vepr fired 4 53cm torpedos at me i evaded them but speed and CM's and im impressed that the sub can go to 40 knots no problem

after a little shoot out with vepr in which i fired 6 MK48ADCAPS at and she still didnt sink i proceaded to sink two surface ships,
i raised to 60 feet and fired 3 harpoons and two TASM all of which were shot down.

i fired 3 torps at the kirov again failing to sink her but putting her out of action and another 2 torps into a sovremenny also failing to sink her (one missed) but she wasnt out of action not properly
she launched her helo.

i went deep i saw on the usni that 1968 feet is max depth so i went there but when i got there no crush warning so i went down further in steps of 50 feet finaly at 2150 feet it came i paniced and rose to 1400 feet i was amazed at such depth for this submarine normaly in the 688 i could only go to 1600 feet back in SC the akula could go to 2,300 feet and even further to 715 meters (2,345 feet)

now the sensors all of them bar the periscope were beyond me i could bearly handle the 688's so forget asking about the 21's it was just too far advanced i prefer my akulas simplisty

all in all I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO THE AMERICANS FOR PRODUCING SUCH A GREAT SUBMARINE

im truly amazed at this boat and i can now say my gepard would have sever problems finding and sinking the seawolf in a one on one battle but it did take a bit for the seawolf to get to the vepr and in a very experianced akula skipper so it kinda gives me a little advance

but yeah i admit for once i think i will have difficaultys in sinking such a vessel

K - why not have a run at diving the SW ?

I too stuck to one sub, the SW, for a long time. But converting to the Ak and sticking with her has given me new perspectives.

If I do return to the SW I will be armed with much more info about the Aks characteristics and performance limitations.

I will know much, if not all, of how the Ak diver thinks, how he employs tactics that match his sub etc.........

Give it a whirl - you will not be disloyal to your motherland as you learn the strengths and
weaknesses of the opposition platform.

The objectivity you achieve will improve your gameplay and could be good preparation for your eventual MP.

Match your practical skills to your knowledge base and the 'world's your oyster'

 I wasnt sure whether you were out for a spin - on an occasional casual dive.

If you are going to stick with the SW and 'convert' as the real military say - I commend you.

The SW manual sonar is not easy - have a look at my SVAK (Sonar visual aid kit) on Bills site.

If I can help in any way just PM me.

Post your impressions when done ?

A month is long enough to make agood start on the conversion process. ;)

If you linger too long...........you may stay a Seawolfer.
(Some hope with you like a stick of rock ....cut it and it says ''From Russia with Love'' ) :yep:

Is the entire community so attached to one platform? :-? In the span of a day I might drive each platform twice. :o

I believe costs have risen to more than $2 bil a piece for the Virginias. I remember reading Texas was up to $2.7 billion. But having a very capable SSN isn't a cheap thing.

I'm rather attached to the air platforms (guess I need to change my nick to MADAltitude), but they're all fun to drive.

 You dont see that too much in MP - just one or two of the talented. But look close and its not 50/50 -
more like 70/30 between favourites.

Anyway I think you can automate/reflex action more when its a practised routine -
a matter of personal choice/ability but you dont see the military playing musical chairs - they undergo platform
familiarisation and conversion training. Thats my 'reality' choice - I like specialisation.

Now I'd put money on it that if TLAM got better results MP in the Kilo that would be his 70/30 choice. ;)

Now I'd put money on it that if TLAM got better results MP in the Kilo that would be his 70/30 choice. ;) Better results! I guess you haven’t heard of the time I sunk a SW and 688 in MP? Or the time I fought two SWs and a 688 to a standstill?

Of course with the P-3, MH-60 and Akula I’ve done some really awesome things. ;) I just pick the platform that’s best to fight the competition/complete the mission goals.

 TLAM I have no idea about your results - was making the point that if you got better (best)
results with Kilo (say) then that would be your main choice of platform in MP.

Thats the way the cookie crumbles with others.

Dont know whether you posted in the General section on 'What other PC games do you play ?' but the average
player seems to actively run (say) 3- 6 games. Now if you some of those, in my case IL2 and RTW,
have multiple platform/armies the choices available grow expotentialy.

Its fun yes to try different combos in different situations but my philosophy is I win by sticking to the
FW190 and my Roman legions........... Not together.

I have two games IL2, falling back on mother earth every time I try to escape from here tenacity. So, I give up.
Well, the second you can guess. My favorite sub is the Seawolf.

Yup. I play all platforms also. But I mostly use Seawolf, OHP Frigate, and MH-60.
