Ever caught a glimpse of your reflection in the monitor ? Scarey ?

Had just dived into a site and grabbed up some more scenarios - there looking back at me was a 'Taker'
OK join the majority ?

Time to stop and consider the huge contribution made to our game by some 'Giants'
No exageration when you consider their time and commitment.
Add to scenario designers, modders, modelers, site hosters, Fleet organisers... the list grows.

Now it may be nice to reward these guys in the only way we can. By, so to speak, 'putting our hands together' and polling.
Starting with Scenario designers, for example, we invite nominations for :-
Ace MP designer.
Ace SP designer.

Run a poll. Perhaps this 'hallowed forum' can be the agent.
Nominations for other categories. Some may warrant Gold, Silver, Bronze rather than 'Ace' only.

The 'Awards' could be a recognition of service and carry the respect of our community.
This would be our way of saying THANKS.

:) Thanks Ulla - two on board - thats a start.

Apathy dont you just love it. Guess everyones on holiday !

Well heres a promise - this topic will not just go away.
If its worth doing its worth fighting for. Watch this space 1/1/06 !

If I have got to I will nominate short-lists, inviting additions, and poll for results.

 The lack of response/reaction just confirms my initial judgement -
that we are a bunch of m****r *********g TAKERS !!

Prove me wrong - please.

 Good - That will do for starters.

It will be better to start the polls from September when more bodies are about after the holiday period.
That will maximise the return and be fairer.

I will post-up some suggestions before then on the polling procedure and categorys. :)

:) Just reporting in to update.

The pot is still simmering - just adding some more ingredients before she comes to the boil. ;)

Anyone got any ideas about categories for polling ? Examples :-
Ace Site.
Ace Modder.
Ace Modeler.
Ace Innovator.
Ace Information Poster.
etc.

Some considerations:-
1. Do we include SC/SCX with DW ? (I think yes)
2. Some categories should have Gold/Silver/Bronze awards- which ?
3. Some have been Team efforts - so we award the team ? (yes)

Even the hornets are asleep this summer, so I am not holding my breath for a response.

Just simmering. ;)

Ace Site.
Ace Modder.
Ace Modeler.
Ace Innovator.

I think that Modeler and Modder could be combined in to one catagory.

Also Ace Scripter (IE Missions) would be one to have. And all should have Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.

Yep - top of the post the starting point category is Mission Designer - Your Scripter is better as it covers Campaigns.

I'm thinking two categories MP and SP here as this reflects generaly the specialisations ?

So we could consider:-
Ace SP Scripter (Gold/Silver/Bronze)
Ace MP Scripter ditto

:D Yep - its called slippage, but its back again and no its not ''Nightmare on Elm Street'' or "Honey I'm home !!!''
Originaly floated in the holiday season it was iced for more active times.
''Even the hornets are asleep this summer, so I am not holding my breath for a response. ''

But to recap the idea is to 'put our hands together' and reward/recognise the great contributions
made by some individuals to our game. So its a kind of players honorary 'Award' system.

Anyone got any ideas how we can give these guys the 'laurels' ? Starting with design - 'Scripter' was suggested ?
Do we separate MP and SP ? Gold, silver and bronze awards by open ballot ?

I believe this is a wonderful idea, and I would say yes to SC/SCXIIc, the same "Giants" have helped both sims a lot.

:) I agree Ron, we should include SC.SCX11 with DW as some of the same people
have been closely associated with all of these sims.

Before we move to inviting nominations for the individuals can we settle on the Award titles ?
All with Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.
Starting with Scripters do we want just an all embracing ' Ace Scripter' or 'Ace Scripter SP' and 'Ace Scripter MP' ?
I will post-up a poll on this topic.

It would be great if we had a medal or insignia for Award holders to optionaly display. Has anyone got the skills
to prepare and propose a design for general approval ?

I might be able to piece some images together in photo shop would it be for a avatar or signature?

:)  That would be great.

I guess most people may prefer to use an 'insignia' as part of their signature where it could be an option.
The other thing is that some people may get more than one award and might like to flag them up.

I would tend to go with different levels of awards for the different catagories.
Some people have contributed some really great scenarios, and others have helped completely revamp the sim.
I would consider a catagory for guides, tips and tactics, and items like sonar profiles, TA droop at various speeds, anyway I believe you get my drift. Items like that are great and require much time by the people who develop them and certainly that not as exciting as develop a really good scenario or campaign.
I think of Subgrup, TLAM, oh really so many who have added tons to both DW and SC/SCXIIc, also the work of Luftwolf and Amizaur should be reconized in a particulary noteworthy way.
A special award for Mr. Nichols for hosting work would be in order I cannot even guess how much stuff I got from his site. SubSim should receive some kind of recogintion. Of course they may have obtained great wealth from the site :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: , and don't need anything else.

:) Sub Sailor we are aiming to target awards at a wide range of contributors. As you rightly say we should not,
and wont, forget the suppliers of guides, tips, sites etc. Some suggestions were given above:-

Ace Site.
Ace Modder.
Ace Modeler.
Ace Innovator.
Ace Information Poster.
etc

We have to start somewhere, a point of attack, and if the Awards idea floats and is supported then the principle will be
extended to other categories. Nominations will be invited for category heads and subsequently names for polling.
Scripter Awards is only phase one.

 But it has to be said, that as exhibited with this poll, if the 'weight' of polling is so slight what credibility
can the Awards carry ?

Where the heck are all those folk who mop up everything that the likes of Fish and Bill do for us ?

Bllman;
I agree with you and I will participate any way I can. I believe it is time to honor those who do so much for the work that put out to improve out playing experience.

:sunny: Thanks for some very welcome support.

I think it is time to test the level of support for this process so I have put up a Poll.

I sincerely hope that we can secure a 'mandate' to get going.
