Here's a little World war One movie I made for a friend last christmas, I tried to make it as much like a film as possible, so there's a bit of tricksy editing going on to time things with the music and give it some pace, but it works well I think:

well here's your chance

for all IL2 1946 players , here's the Track recorded in the game itself

the filetype is a .ntrk

place the file in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\records
run IL2 and click on play tracks and enjoy:up:
I,m not sure if it works on older IL2 games too

Very cool. Just thinking at Reno they race a bunch of warbirds includind russkie ones.

I wonder if an MP air race could be made?

Chock
07-01-07, 04:56 PM
Or you could just get this:

http://www.amazon.com/Xtreme-Air-Racing-Jewel-Case/dp/B00009MJDG/ref=sr_1_1/002-9918235-1571239?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1183326821&sr=1-1

which is very good fun online, there was a sequel game too that included a Comabt Race mode, but the one on the link is the one I have. It runs fine on XP by the way. As far as I know, this sim is the only one that models wake turbulence too.

A screenshot from it:

A quick three and a half minute stunt/aerobatic sequence in a Bucker Jungmann biplane, with strong wind making things a bit tricky.

This was done in FSX and you can see the turbulence making things hard for me in in the close up shots (notably the inverted close up), so worth a look if you haven't checked that out in FSX yet.

What are the realism settings on for that video? it doesn't seem very believable that a bf-110 could turn with a single engined fighter, and it seemed to have a better roll rate that the 190, which it plainly didn't have in real life. Also looked like external views were being used in combat, were they?

Realism settings doesnt change the flight model on IL2, expect for the fact that with Stalling turned on, it's harder to recover from one.

@Kratos

That footage was from 0 to ~50min of the game, not too many fights were left out.

:D Chock

When I host the IL2 dificulty settings are friendly ;) (but none affect the IL2 flight model and still you can have black and stalls but its easier to recover from them) as we have some guys that play that still need to discover the limits of the plane itself and also when we just dogfight we just are having some fun (unlimitted ammo).
I mostly keep External views on as some like dowly likes to record the whole thing and for people that like to make some screenshots.

as about the FW190 vs the BF110
well, flying the FW190 seems to be a advantage versus the BF110
but instead the FW190 is a bit of a piggy in turning radius...its too wide and too long as you Bank right hard you will roll over and end up in a stall
as the FW190 design was more of a Bomber killer then a dogfighter (like the BF109) I should have picked the 109 instead of the 190 versus Dowly hehehehe

but when I launch Co-op missions I mostly crank up the dificulty to a higher level then in just fun Dogfights.

you should join us someday Chock  it is great fun.
you know the hour 22:00GMT +1 and mostly I post a Scramble in the Online play topic.

I'll throw in these two commercials. I do not mean to advertise, I have no connection with Aerosoft, but the movies are really nice. They demonstrate the Vienna and Frankfurt airport sceneries for MSFS.

http://www.aerosoft2.de/videos/Frankfurt-w.wmv (http://www.aerosoft2.de/videos/Frankfurt-w.wmv)

http://www.aerosoft2.de/videos/Vienna-w.wmv (http://www.aerosoft2.de/videos/Vienna-w.wmv)

I'm about to update them for my FS9, but I know both airports from FS8 addons. Approach at night is an experience.

Chock
07-21-07, 12:58 PM
That certainly looks very cool, nicely done, but there were some things that gave it away as using the simple flight model, and once or twice some wings and tails hit the ground, which appeared to be carefully edited out by cutting to other sequences.

Still, it looked cool, even if wake turbulence would have made it impossible in real life, and it is certainly one of the best vids I've seen of simulator aerobatics.

Yes, I'd like to have the stalling on too.

@Chock, dont know about that. It says on one comment from the author that "At our forum there are many tracks of alive performances where we fly on fullreal. There are all these elements of pilotage and more... All our rollers are made on fullreal settings."

Dowly
07-22-07, 08:54 AM
And also, I'd like to see us flying with locked cockpits, icons off, both map & the ones that shows you the range, type etc. of the plane.

Sneaking up on the enemy was the main thing on dogfights. ;)

XabbaRus
07-22-07, 09:44 AM
Icons off would be fine.

Would we still be allowed external views? I always fly with full cockpit on anyway.

Dowly
07-22-07, 09:58 AM
I'd go for the full locked cockpit as icons off doesnt mean crap if you can padlock to enemy. ;)

I really want to learn to play IL2, better and that means going full realism. (in this case, locked cockpit, icons off.)

We can see where the other players are stationed from the main map when you pick your plane, so there's no need to worry that we would never find the enemy.

:stare:

wadda yadda badda.
stop talking you wuzzies

next time I toggle REALISTIC on.
means no pretty plane to see as only the cockpit :yep:
no Icons to see from a far distance, no Icons on the map so you cant know when they are close, no unlimmited ammo so you have to shoot wiseley.
no padlock so you have to use the different angle views in the cocpit to chase the enemy. means 100% realism!

and chock, you BETTER JOIN!
or else :arrgh!:

no back at easy pilots.

Real settings or not, there's no denying you were hitting stuff with your opening bursts there, that was some good shooting mate. That's one of my favourite places to dogfight in IL2, because if you stay low on those hills you can force a lot of the bad guys to crash if you're outnumbered:rotfl:

Landing and takeoff of the Spitfire in Battle of Britain II. A newer version of the beta summer terrain is shown a bit as well. This was filmed in one single shot from beginning to end with FRAPS.

VIDEO LINKED at Esnips (better quality):
http://www.esnips.com/doc/30f83fe0-3786-412b-9e04-c1d42fd4f56d/Takeoff-and-landing-BoB2 (http://www.esnips.com/doc/30f83fe0-3786-412b-9e04-c1d42fd4f56d/Takeoff-and-landing-BoB2)

VIDEO at YouTube:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QB52IvAMadk (http://youtube.com/watch?v=QB52IvAMadk)

*************************

And here is a video clip of specifically the new summer terrain in more detail:
http://www.esnips.com/doc/5541f67a-b28c-4b99-b568-6dbf217b211a/BoB2-terrain-beta (http://www.esnips.com/doc/5541f67a-b28c-4b99-b568-6dbf217b211a/BoB2-terrain-beta)

The videos at Esnips will play in a window but they need to stream first into a buffer so it may be slow if your connection speed is slow. If the video is choppy just move the video position slider back to the left after its started a bit. Right-click within the image and select the zoom option to make the screen bigger.

Before anyone slams my moviemaking skills with the terrain video please note I made no effort at all to make this artistic and just blended a few different scenes. The point was just to give a feel for the new terrain textures.

:yep: That was a good chase indeed,
Slow versus the fast, but mine turned a lot faster then yours...
I really need to lure you in and make a fast turn and then give you a burst...

you noticed I did some neat tricks to avoid your rain of bullets,
ah , well the mountain map is quiet a map you have to focus , if you lose the oponent for a sec, you have to search again...and its quiet dificult with all the trees and its landscape

but good fun
you where quiete surprised when you said hello to the BF109G6 MK108 nose cannon :P
I just flew straight through ya

Dowly
10-01-07, 05:07 AM
Yep, you turn faster, that's why I try to keep the distance as long as possible and use the Spit's speed to gain the upperhand for a few secs. I lost you kazillion times when your plane was against the ground, blends in perfectly. :damn:

Nope, didnt see any fancy stunts, was quite a busy with trying to keep my plane in the air. But now, I finally binded the rudder trim buttons, so I can compensate my crappy joystick's left-aligned rudder with it. ;)

Also, just learned yesterday that the allied planes turn to left better when using full revs, as the props turn left. 109 & 190 are the opposite, they turn better to right as their props turn right.

Haha, that nose cannon really got me there. I just cant follow the simplest rule of a dogfight; DONT GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH YOUR OPPONENT!!!

Two classics here, but in case you haven't seen them. Bill et John, episodes I & II. Made with Lock On. The guy singing the "danger zone" and flying the jet is priceless! The number two is outstanding as well. Don't drop a Maverick on the runway...;)

I just joined the SubSim world (with SH4) a couple of weeks ago....and just today strumbled across this Aviator forum.

My involvement has been with the IL2 flight sim series for the past 6 years or more, and especially with IL2 FlightSim-based movies. In this relatively lengthy thread, I've seen some interesting youtube hosted videos, but only one of the truly great "IL2" movies has been mentioned/linked.

The Flight Sim Machinima website (http://flightsimmachinima.montydan.com/)was established precisely for the purpose of providing links to stream or download the Best-of-the-Best movies ever produced from the IL2-FB-PF-1946 series, from 2002 through 2007.

At FSM ("http://flightsimmachinima.montydan.com/) you will find more than 60 movies catalogued by year of production and type, each with a synopsis and a link to download and/or stream the movie. All such movie downloads or streaming versions are in high resolution format, usually *.AVI files (DivX or XVid compression codecs). Youtube and Google on-line videos in the converted Flash format greatly sacrifice visual quality for convenience.

Be advised that some of the newer the movies at FSM are of extended duration, 20 to 30 minutes. "Faith, Hope, and Charity", for that matter, is a full one-hour long drama.....so bring popcorn and/or a couple of beers.

Do you guys have plans do cover any events in the Eastern Front like some of the female aces and their stories?

Actually for my next video I was thinking of putting together something that represents the actions that took place on the eastern front.

A historical basis would be good as to whcih groups and which battles were taking part even if the actual event never happened.

Any recommendations?

Sorry, but I know very little about the Eastern front, other than what I have learned since buying IL-2 in 2001.

The story of the Russian fighter pilot Lilya Litvyak is the one which I would tell....

For your consideration...
In Russia, the 586th Women's Fighter Regiment was first to go to the front. Commanded by Tamara Kazarinova, they flew the Yak-7B and Yak-1, totalling 4419 operational sorties, and credited with 38 victories.

The principal role of this regiment was to drive off enemy bomber formations before they reached their targets. Encounters with Messerschmitt 109s escorting the bombers were common.

Squadron Commander Olga Yamshchikova flew 93 sorties, scored three confirmed victories, and after the war became the first Soviet woman to fly jet aircraft when she became a test pilot.

Lilya Litvyak("The White Rose") and Ekaterina Budanova both flew with the 586th. Maj Tamara Kazarinova noted they had a flair for individual combat so they were both transferred to join the men of the 73rd Fighter Regiment who were involved with some furious battles over Stalingrad. This was a different kind of combat for the girls, joining the Free Hunters and seeking out fighters.

When the women arrived, male pilots found it difficult to accept them. Many refused to have them fly as their wingman, some later relenting after the women proved they were more than capable. Many commanders wanted to protect them even though they continuously proved their abilities. The women flew their missions together.

Both Lilya Litvyak and Ekaterina Budanova became fighter aces. Ekaterina Budanova was credited with eleven victories, and Lilya Litvyak scored twelve official victories and three shared in her year with the 73rd Fighter Air Regiment before her Yak was lost on August 1, 1943.

More about Lilya:
On each side of her YaK-1's cockpit she painted a white lily, often confused for a rose-hence the nickname. She was so fond of flowers, that she often picked wildflowers and carried them aloft on her missions. According to her mechanic, Inna Pasportnikova, she had a postcard with yellow roses in her instrument panel. The white rose on the fuselage became famous among the Germans, who knew better than to try to dogfight the familiar YaK-1, and usually tried to make good their escape before Litvyak got too close.

Litvyak was injured 3 times during her combat tour. All three injuries occured during the Spring and Summer of 1943, a period of intense combat activity. The first time was on March 15, the same day that she shot down a Junkers Ju-88 bomber, but got hit by their escorting Me-109s (she continued to fly and bagged another Ju-88!). She managed to land at her base, and passed out and she remained in a hospital until May.

When she came back, she was wounded again in combat on July 16 and 18 (the death-date of her comrade Ekaterina Budanova). Both times she landed in German-ocuppied territory, but got back to base on foot the first time, and was rescued by another fighter pilot who landed after her the second.

She was repeatedly successful in flying missions, although was finally killed in action over Orel, while escorting a unit of Shturmoviks returning from an attack on August 1, 1943. Because of her notoriety amongst the Germans, eight Messerschmitt Me-109's concentrated solely on Lilya's YaK-1, and it took all eight of them to finally shoot down the "White Rose of Stalingrad". Her body and aircraft were not found during the war, but a marble monument, with 12 gold stars-one for each enemy plane that she had shot down-was erected in her memory in Krasy Luch, in the Donetsk region. Litvyak had completed 168 missions, and had 3 shared victories in addition to her personal twelve. She was 22 years old when she died.

She is acclaimed as the world's highest scoring female Ace, and was awarded the Gold Star "Hero of the Soviet Union" medal.

Click here for Wikipedia's entry on Lilya Litvyak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Litvyak)

.....On the other hand, there's always the possiblity of a story about an IL-2 pilot: Tamara Konstantinova, who survived the war and did not die until she was 80 years old. She also received the "Hero of the Soviet Union" medal.

There not cheap for 70-90 pages only, I can pick up a book less than them with a good 250-300 pages. But with that aside there series like Campaign and Essential History along with the rest are good, I hunt around for cheaper prices.

Wonder if the Russian studios ever made a film about them?
...

The big screen movie version seems to have never gotten up and running:

"Night Witches"
Release Date: Unknown; that will depend upon when production eventually starts up

Language: English and Russian with English subtitles.

Distributor: Currently seeking distribution in the USA.

Production Company: Soyuz Kino Service (Russia), Poseidon Films (1994's The Steal) (U.K.)

Cast: None announced yet.

Cast Notes: (10/27/03) Back when filming was expected to start in 2001, the cast would have included Anna Friel, Sophie Marceau and Malcolm McDowell (Alexander Siddig's uncle).

Director: Alexander Siddig (debut; he's probably best-known as a cast member of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; he did direct an episode of the show; he's also McDowell's nephew)

Screenwriter: April Holloway, Alexander Siddig (debuts)

Based Upon: The true story of one of three Russian squadrons of female WWII pilots that the Nazi's called Nachthexen (which translates as Night Witches).

Similar Project Note: (10/21/02) Another film in development that is based on the same true story may also be called 'Night Witches' (if it beats this film to production). That project is to be produced by Jerry Rigged Productions for Paramount Pictures, and is based upon the book, "Night Witches", by Bruce Miles.

Premise: Set during WWII along the Eastern Front between Germany and Russia, this is the story of the "Night Witches", squadrons of female pilots who became one of the most feared and lethal of Russia's defenses against the Nazi's. Flying older Po-2 biplanes normally used as trainers, they flew nuisance missions at night, but managed to wreak havok on the Germans.

Filming: Production had been scheduled to start in Russia in October, 2001, on a budget of $20 million. Post-production will be done in Canada, but it appears that it's been delayed (11/7/01), possibly to later this fall or sometime in early 2002? (11/30/01) The director's official site confirms the new production start date as early 2002. (4/5/02) Well, early 2002 is just about over, and Siddig hasn't updated his site about this since November, so there really is no word now about where this is.

A shame. Thing is looking at the cast for the first movie they were all English actors.

I think this is the kind of film that needs either Russian actors or ones who could be convincing as Russians, ie not Bob Hoskins as Krushchev eg Enemy At the Gates.

You could havea cracking flying film with som good sub plots. The intrigue of the era would provide plenty and you could have a romance thread in there too.

Just need to get used to this. The spring is rather loose, even with everything at max. Tho, I suspect this is due to my settings in IL2. And why the fock do the cables have to be so short!? It can just BARELY reach my PC.

:rotfl:1 Meter,
what a product flaw that is..did they expect the Case of the PC be on everyones desk?

the Logitech (force) 3D pro have a 2 meter cable.

any devices that rests on the Desk must have a 2 meter cable in my opinion.
