Yeah, that's how you don't do it :haha: Did he honestly think he'd be able to brake with that much runway left? I'd have gone around and tried again, unless he was low on fuel of course.
Darn short runway though

Actually, there have been a few cases where planes managed to keep flying and make emergency landings after losing a wing, But that video is a quite badly done hoax.

Stop running away, makes you easy target. :O: You did put up a good fight against Arc even after you had lost whole rudder. :yeah:
Lionclaw
06-06-10, 06:31 AM
I had to use the backup HUD (Shkval failure) for the dogfight with Arc, due to some dumb mistake prior to dogfight that led to minor ground impact. :dead:
I've watched the video a number of times, I've always thought that being on the move is good in dogfights, not good with helicopters it seems. :hmmm:
Would be fun to try again, but with purpose built mission, engines running so start up isn't needed.
Gotta remember that the cannon can hit at over 4 kliks, so you can't really outrun it. :DL

Edit - and as for your air taxi and landing - are you certain that's you? No damage, not even a scrape of the concrete!
Heey! :stare:
It's actually not so hard after awhile. Just need to remember to give more power
as the shaking starts. What I had difficulties when I started was the fact that
it feels like you are going down no matter how much collective you give,
so I gave too much collective. But once you get down low enough and the ground
effect kicks in, it stops your descend and leaves you to a hover.
Now, I just need to learn to hit something from a distance with the weapons
and I'm all set! :hmmm:
EDIT: Those with X52 (no idea if it's the same for the pro version), on landing,
I find that when the shaking starts, raising the physical X52 collective to the
farthest "notch" (when it feels a bit stiffer) before 100% is enough to stop
the descend enough for the ground effect to catch you. Guess it's about 75-80% or something. :hmmm:
Arclight
09-20-13, 12:26 PM
The wonky thing there is that I use the same amount of collective for cruise. Really used to using a lot less collective in flight from the Ka-50, pretty big switch flying the Huey.
Of course it depends of your loadout, but without weapons, I use about 50% and
just trim it so that it kinda keeps the altitude. I won't even try to trim it so that
I can just fly without touching the stick or collective. I just try to get it "close enough"
and adjust when needed.
Remember the video where I showed how well the KA-50 can fly without rudder?
Here's another one, this time without the whole tail section.

Turn on Target - great in theory, obviously a little harder when all your mates are watching.
So just for fun, I was messing around in my flight sim today, at my "home base" at Charlotte airport, trying to create an A320 that could take off vertically by crossing it (via config editing) with a Harrier model. It looked like it almost worked from the start - I just needed to add a little more power and control surface authority to make the A320 controllable in vertical flight. All I wanted to do was to take off and land at the gate.
Nobody told me that that Harrier apparently contained a nuclear rocket and a pack of rabid weasels that could break the laws of physics...
This was the result. I laughed and I hope you will too!
