save after you've done your hydrophone check I guess

apart from that, here's a couple of suggestions:

1 Don't do it, are you nuts!?!

2 If you absolutely positively insist on doing a 1x patrol might I suggest a Type IID in say late 1940 or possibly in the Black sea.

3 make sure you have a three week's supply of coffee

I play GWX, and always sail in and out of port in real time, but that's about all I can take. At least I have more patience that the ones who demanded a 'Start At Sea' function. I like looking at the sights, but once there aren't any I have to TC at least a little. Funny thing is, whenever I'm near shore I always go to 1x and look around, and sometimes I'll watch the sun rise and set.

Advice? Find someone to be your crew so you can play cards and give orders.

Good luck with it.

You must have way too much time on your hands or else you're a glutton for punishment!

I could never play through an entire patrol in real time; I'm too impatient.

Good luck...

its not like you cant do other things while playin at 1x-- look at it like your home is your boat -but dont forget to turn the volume up .. it is fun to play 1x you dont miss any contacts that come within range compared to even 64x I enjoyed my 1x play i think the toughest part is returning seems forever best time for 1x is when a new gwx or nygm comes along that you havnt tryed yet:hmm:

I've done it two times already (NYGM and GWX 1.3)!
And it was fun, difficult, and a strain to the heart! But also rewarding!

Here a few tips:

1) Start little! take the IIA or IID with a flotilla that doen't require you to sail around the world!

2) Might think about the "no fatigue" option in SH3 Commander! But depends how you play it!

3) Save often!

4) 100% realism!

5) If you have to Sleep keep the headphones on or the stereo.- Do it submerged under 60m and rig for silent runnig!

6) Make sure no outside application like an automated updater of any sort is running, other it might "ALT TAB" you Sim and depending on your situation you won't be able to ALT-TAb it back!

7) Lots of gramophon songs and books!

8) When in doubt then don't . Convoy hunting in Realtime is nerve whacking!

9) Hydrophon and Obs-Scope check every time before you surface!

And i think that every SH3 player at least one in a life-time should do 1x!

I think you're cool!

Cheers and good hunting!

Take a good book.

Don't be tempted to rush the attacks.

Default Best advice

Here's probably the best advice you are going to get. Go here: http://dashboard.filefront.com/r6751/

and download my shipscontact mod which will sound an alarm when your crew spots ships or aircraft.

You can then be away from the keyboard and get the recall if needed by your crew. It is just a sound mod.
