Default [WIP] Fire effect

I have been experimenting with the fire effects of the big caliber guns. I have always felt that the stock fire effect has too little flame and smoke. So I replaced the old texture used by the guns and replaced it with the texture for explosions. When I tested it it looked better, but not perfect. When the smoke/flame began to dissapate, the game crashed. Don`t know why. So I made a new file, based on the explosion, but the effect part was smaller. When I tested it it worked just fine.

Here`s some before and after shots:

Before

After

As I said, it`s better. But it ain´t perfect. It`s a little narrow at the middle. When the effect dissapates it still leaves behind white smoke. If you could help me, then feel free to make a donation on your way out.

P.S. I am also making a new sound mod for the main guns. These sounds are from the movie Otokotachi no Yamato (or simply Yamato). The new sound might work well with the new fire effect.

Thank you very much for this work. I never could understand how they decided that battleship guns produced bluish smoke.

I'd like to incorporate it in "Wolves of the Kaiser" if you don't mind.

When it`s done, sure. For some reason this mod won´t work on my laptop. I have changed the two textures listed in the Materials.dat. When I fire the guns there´s no changes.

Turns out this mod has a side effect. As can be seen in this picture:

I never knew that they used the same effect texture for ship fires and gun salvos.

At least you can get around it by adding a new material with S3ditor.

I`ve been messing with the materials.dat and particles.dat. I have also changed the contrast on the explosion textures to get more difference between orange and yellow flames. The results is this:

This mod: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...=1#post1860193 has been merged with my sound mod.

Together they have formed this mod: http://www.gamefront.com/files/21462...Flash_V1.0.rar

Wow thats just very good job on this mod!

This one reminded me of a very small, but VERY cool deck gun sound mod for SH3, which i cant find anymore ... it was some reworked gun sound, nothing special so far, but what made it so damn awesome was after the shot you could hear the cartridge falling onto the deck...it added so much immersion to the game back in the days, basically it was the start for SH3 modding for me

Too bad im not familiar with sound editing, or i already would be reworking your mod

Maybe you can do a small addon mod to change sub deck guns to have climpering cartridges?

Im not sure, you even could do that for the bigger guns for playable BBs?
But could have the side effect that you maybe can hear the cartridges falling from ships kilometers away...

Anyway, GJ on this mod, i just hope i have inspired you a bit!

Actually, the high caliber guns won´t have that sound as they lack the cartridge. It will be impractical when a shell weights 1000 kg instead of 20-50 kg. Instead they use powder bags that the loaders ram in after the shell. If you go on Youtube, you can find videos of the loading process on one of the 16"/50 Mark 7 on the Iowas.

Besides, I`m quitting. No more modding for me. Have better things to do.

This wouldn't be a date-based decision, would it?
