Just some quick and dirty reskins of the default ones:

I have big problems with the standard textures in a game with lightmaps:damn:
they are to brighten.

i´d love to! :up:

There´s still quite some specular shine on these too, especially visible @ low sun / night. I also didn't quite get the details on i wanted to, because it would have involved UV editing, requiring a 3D app and at least some basic knowledge on polygonal modelling - both of which i don't have.

Concerning lightmaps - if you work with Photoshop try adding a layer with a light gray (i.e. R:190 G:190 B:190) and set it's blend mode to "Darken". This will tone down anything lighter than this to the specified level (eliminating whites).

You might also want to keep the alpha channel rather dark. I´m still experimenting with the latter.

I'm sorry to ask this but how do I change the color scheme?
Do I have to rename the files or is this multi skin and based on date?

No problem.

Default would be dunkelgrau (*T01). If you select the "Alberich" coating, the schlickgrau (*T01T) skin is used. I`m not entirely sure when/where you get the Blaugrau (*T02) skin. However, you could always rename the respective files, so that the preferred skin is displayed.

Not that I’m saying the actual skin looks bad, no! I really like it. I’m using the camouflage pattern that was delivered as an alternative. It’s just not as sharp as the others (I’m using the high res reskins from FooFighter for the fleet boats).

Other than this I think keltos01 has some new submarines. :hmm:

It’s just what I think, because FooFighter did a really good job at the fleet boats and I don’t know if it’s really that benefiting to reskin these again. I would rather see some mods getting skins in a higher resolution with more details.

Darn I think I sound too bossy… sorry for that. :damn:

glad you like them. Providing time and reference material permits, i'd like to do some more skins, though i think that U.S. boats are well served atm. Currently i have some camouflage patterns for the IX D2 in the works. Next would be a set for Tomi's VIIC ... though i'm afraid it requires more than just new textures ... and i can only help with the latter :oops:

I'm downloading, but can you also post a pic of the Dunkelblau? That was precisely the colour used by the IXD2 U-Boats in late war, one of the few colour pictures of WW2 shows that very well :yep:

The VIIC/41 is good.
But I am currently working on a much better version!
Cause he released a more detailed one and I am gonna add it in my atlantic mod.
So no rush with this OakGroove!
I want to make the Atlantic mod fully working and then there come mods for it like textures campaign, ships, upgrades and so on:up:

Have you seen Mikhayl's IIB? it look great everytime. Its textures have the best grey scale or so?

I´ve modified the NSS_Uboat9d2.dat and Turm_9d2_1.dat for specular/gloss levels, so these 2 might be conflicting. Using skwas silent editor you could manually alter your current .dat files to keep the changes made by OM/PE3. Oak if got no new project at the time being and got plenty of time then I have a selfish request that may be something to look into depending on your preferences. :oops:
The heavy cruiser Admiral Scheer is the only proper (damage and balanced) working playable surface vessel at the time and I think it would be awesome to have her in a HD skin.
I personally think she would be even prettier with only slight weathering and in the prewar light grey coating:

Thanks stabiz, i have some slightly updated skins of the default ones (Dunkelgrau 51/Schlickgrau 58 and Blaugrau 58/1) and going to upload them in a day or two.

@ all, the emblem i included on all 3 default skins is a personal one. I think of all the emblems i tried, it gave the best contrast. However i´m open to suggestions which emblems to include in the next batch, that is unless someone has already realeased sort of emblem enabler (~ like the kill markings mod) :hmm:

I don't use the lightmaps to paint the camo on, though much more simple, the results are too crude. Painting the camo on the textures themselves involves quite alot of fiddling, as pretty much everything gets mirrored in one way or the other.

You should do it this way but later you'll see, that the reflections doesn't look as good as at the stock boat.

i have a problem! i just added this mod and i enabled it in the jsgme. When i go to play the game the u-boat looks exactly the same :S is there anything else i must do before it works?

Herr_Pete,

after extracting Type IX D2 Exterior Replacement Textures.rar, just copy the *ERT* Folders to your mods folder (i.e. Typ IX D2 ERT Base Package, Typ IX D2 ERT Camouflage Package, Typ IX D2 ERT Emblem Package). The base package needs to be installed in any case, as the Camo and Emblem are not stand-alone, else the archive would have grown too big.

Are you by any chance firm wih normal maps as utilized by SH4? I´m having some issues with the 'Spee normals. The method i've used until now is to save a tangent space normal map using Nvidia's .dds plugin, reload the texture in PS and swap the green and blue channels, saving as DXT1. Apart from that the plugin runs like **** on CS2 and Vista, the results ingame leave alot to be desired, no matter the settings i use - it just doesn't look right.
Is there a way to produce quality maps using other methods/ tools?

Have you looked at DXT BMP (http://www.brothersoft.com/dxtbmp-download-71327.html)?

It is a nice tool for textures converting and editing:up:

In my oppinion the game works best with DXT3. It gives the smallest files, too.

Do these IXD2 replacement skins work on SH3 or are they for SH4? I only have SH3 and I am new to the sim. Is the Grey Wolves mod required to use these IXD2 skins? The screen shots on the thread look great! Excellent job!

Were your sample IXD2 screenshots taken from SH4 or SH3? It looks like they might have come from SH4, do to the appearence of the watch crew. That cammo in particular is really nice looking..

Hey there, Wonderful work, I'm having a problem with this skin however, its looks great but when combined with Xan's snorkel mod which is the telescopic vertical rising type, I get a snorkel that "Becomes" a swing type that swings from the bottom of the boat and ends up sticking out the bottom of the u-boat!! when it fully deploys I don't get the diesels kicking in under water either.

Is it a quirk of this skin? Please help!

Thank you so much for your effort,but the package that you uploaded is an old one.Those three textures are already been included in OM.

What we need is a Ogrooves second updated package with camo textures...Is there any possibility that you have that one too and if that so,please upload it...

You (or anyone) know where I can download OakGroove's camo skins for IXD2 or other good camo skin? Im playing SH4 + Op. Monsun + Omegu.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, kurfürst, for this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=169610. Yesterday I learned how to have a IXD2 submarine instead a IXD2 hoovercraft :D.

The original draught set was more meant for "Free Willy" or anything else floating around, but not for an U-Boat.

I found the "original" set of Oakgrooves textures on my HD and have uploaded them for you. Here´s the link:

First of all thanks to all of you for continually uploading this.

I have a few questions though.

After I installed it my D2 got a new default grey skin, so it's working. But I use OM and have no clue how to select another skin from the 3 available? I presume selection of skins only works in UBM vanilla, via upgrades screen? Anyway, I guess I could still figure that out by renaming the respective files.

Second, why is this (as well as the default green Type 9 D2 skin in UBM) so dark? In bright sunshine that looks really wrong. Is there anyone who has ever worked on the relative darkness of the "new" technology skins (lightmaps?) .. ? In the old days it was easier, I could simply take the tga file and make it brighter myself ..

I usually just use the mod installer to install my IX skin's in OM, just put activate them and they show up, I still have a few skin's around also like Carotio's camo for the type IX.

To clarify, i'ts no problem to copy them in the game and the first skin shows up ok. But there are three different skins included, and I don't know how to switch those in OM (not vanilla).

hmmm, In my files all the skins are seperate, not sure on these working in OM as I was, the above screen shots are from the stock U Boat expansion or SH4 Gold with out any mod's
