SUBSIM Review

Ship Hunt
An ingenious subsim for the Palm O/S and compatible PDAs.

How many times have you been stuck at an airport, marooned in a dentist's office, or otherwise fixed in time and space with nothing to do but wait? Well, now there's a subsim you can play on your Palm O/S PDA: Ship Hunt.

Ship Hunt allows you to control a diesel sub engaged in battle with a hunter-killer group. Through three distinctive and detailed control screens you manage your sub's systems--helm, sonar, engineering, and damage control. While it may be hard to imagine a subsim on a 2.5-inch screen, Ship Hunt packs in realistic essentials that you access by tapping with the pointer stick. The purchase price is a very reasonable $9.95 and the developer has released seven upgrades in the last six months.

We haven't tested the game yet (I own a Revo PDA which uses the Symbian O/S, alas) but several players have endorsed Ship Hunt as challenging and fun. Think of it as a mini-688(I). It sure beats dentist office reading material.
