I am trying to locate some of the families we were friends with during those years. My ex-husban, J.W. Sanders was a torpedoman aboard the T-Fish. Plowman and Engel were MMs. Their wives were friends of mine and we lost contact over the years. Would love to hear from them and catch up on their lives. I have located another family, which has been fun corresponding with. Thanks.

My name is Sean James Falconer. I am looking for any information about my uncle, Clifford "Babe" Lester. He served on the submarine USS Spadefish during world war two.I'm not sure, but I also believe that he was graduated from UDT school early in the war and was one the first "Frogmen". I lost contact with my Uncle Babe when my grandmother, June G. Falconer passed away in 1977. June and Babe were brother and sister. Please, can anyone help me? He is my favorite uncle and I would really appreciate any help I could get in finding any information about him. I would further like to thank ALL of the veterans of the "Silent Service" for their service and their sacrifice to the United States of America. Please e-mail me at seanjamesfalconer@home. Thank you all so very much for your time and any help you can offer. Sincerely, Sean Falconer.

I am researching his history and came across this site. He served from 1925 - 1945. He started out as a Mess attendant third class, and ended is Navy career as a Chief Steward. Sadly, he passed away in 1971 when I was only one year old. He did many great things for my family and for that I thank him dearly. I have a few of his photos from when he served as well as his discharge papers and transfer to fleet reserve paper along with some medals and pins. The vessels and stations he served on are as follows (as typed on his transfer to fleet reserve): R/S, Cavite, P.I., USNH, Puget Sound, Wn., R/S, Puget Sound, Wn., USS HOLLAND, USS MARYLAND, USS RELIEF, USS S-24, USS S-28, USS S-26, US S/M Base, Pearl Harbor, T.H., USS BEAVER, USS ARGONAUT, USS SEAGULL, USS NARWHAL, USS LITCHFIELD, COMSUBSPACADCOMD, COMSUBSTRAINPAC, (USS SEACAT FLAG). If anyone can help find more information both on the internet and off-line I would appreciate the help. Thank You, Michael Mack.

USS Trumpetfish (SS-425) Reunion September 14th - 16th, 2001 Peoria, Illinois
The USS Trumpetfish (SS-425) will hold a reunion in Peoria, Illinois between the date of 14th of September through the 16th, 2001 at the Sleep Inn–Peoria, 4244 North Brandywine Drive, I-74 Exit 89, Peoria, Illinois 61614
It has been sent up with Sleep Inn to block 20 rooms until August 21, 2001 strictly for the USS Trumpetfish Reunion. The cost will be $58.95 plus tax per room per night. YOU ARE TO CALL AND MAKE YOUR OWN RESERVATIONS AND PAYMENT WILL BE DIRECTIY TO THE MOTEL AND NOT TO ME. When you call tell them that this reservation is for THE USS TRUMPETFISH REUNION. If they don’t give you the rate stated above let me know ASAP. How you can contact me will be listed below. Here is how you get in contact with the motel.
Sleep Inn –Peoria 4244 North Brandywine Drive I-74 Exit 89 Peoria, Illinois 61614 Phone (309) 682-3322 Fax (309) 682-3031
These rates will be good for the dates of Tuesday September 11th, to Sunday September 16th, 2001at 1200.
The meeting room will be set up and open Friday morning September 14th and will be closed Sunday September 16th. As far as the meeting room I have not set up any activities or speaker, this is just a place to come and tell some no shitters or what ever you want to do. I have told the motel that we would set up our own bar and arrange our own snack; I will need to collect $25.00 from each of you. This will cover all drinks, beer, ice, soft drinks, and some mailing to other Trumpetfish Sailors that do not have e-mail. I will make a full account of all money received and spent at the time of the reunion. So when you send the money to me let me know what you want me to buy for drinks. If there is any money left over we will have to decide what to do with it at the time.
I also have planned a lunch on Saturday, 15 Sept. 2001. At this date I do not have that set up but I’m talking to a couple of restaurant in the area. I will try to keep this in the $15.00 range for steak or barbecue.
I have been asked if I have considered having hats make for this Reunion. I will let you be the judge on this. I have designed a number of submarine logo for USSVI bases and have hats make by Raynor and Associates in Houston Texas (another submarine sailor) generally you can figure the cost to be around $17.00 per hat and will have to be ordered in lot of 50. I get enough guys to say yes and we come up with a good logo I’m willing to go with it. Your call.
I would like to have the following information back to me:
1. If you have made a reservation at the motel. 2. If you consider the $25.00 is a reasonable cost for the meeting room? 3. If you want hat for this reunion. 4. What you would like to see stocked in the bar. 5. Would you like to have a Friday night dinner
I will be firming up the arrangement at the Saturday Lunch and sending out maps and further information in other e-mail.
I have scheduled the reunion during the time of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc, (USSVI) national meeting, you DO NOT have to be a member of USSVI to attend this reunion. This reunion is outside of USSVI activities but was done during the time of the national meeting in hopes of allowing more Trumpetfish sailors who served on more than one boat to attend. Also at this time there will be from 750 to 1000 submarine sailors in Peoria. The motel is located approximately 10 minutes from the downtown convention center. So if there is business or activities that you need to attend you will not be very far away. Also if you are coming in other than driving and need shuttled down to the convention center or back I will have my car there to make the trip. I also will need to be at the convention center myself during some short periods.
Cool Bob

Help! I have a question that I'm hoping someone out there can answer. I moved into a house built in 1930. In the garage, I have found what I believe to be concrete bench ends taken from a submarine. Stamped into one of the bench ends is the marking "S.D.A. SS Basile". Can anyone tell me if they know anything about this? I have been trying to search the internet with no luck. If these are bench ends from a submarine, I am looking to sell them to anyone who might be interested. One of the ends has a piece of the concrete broken out of the top of it which reveals an iron skeleton. These are extremely heavy! Please contact me as soon as possible! I really would like to know any history behind this submarine, if it is a submarine. I don't want to throw these out if they were part of a boat that has served a country, whether it's the United States or any other country. Thank you!

March 22, 2001 Sub's crew defies odds by accepting responsibility
By KERRY DOUGHERTY © 2001, The Virginian-Pilot Once in a while you see something on the nightly news that stops you in your tracks. You can't believe your eyes -- or your ears. You see people squaring their shoulders and saying things like ``My mistake,'' ``It was all my fault'' and ``I'm sorry.'' In testimony before the court of inquiry investigating the February sinking of a Japanese fishing trawler by an American submarine off the coast of Hawaii, there has been some astonishing behavior. The television cameras have recorded it all. Take this exchange: ``It was only a six-hour cruise,'' one of the examiners said to the man in charge of the Greeneville's radar tracking. ``You got lazy didn't you, Petty Officer Seacrest?'' ``Yes sir,'' Patrick Seacrest replied. Not ``Yes, but . . . '' Not ``Well, it really wasn't my fault.'' Not, ``Maybe, but the civilians on board were distracting me.'' Just, ``Yes sir.'' For some reason, it reminded me of a less-noble moment in recent television history: Bill Clinton shaking his crooked finger at the camera and saying ``I did not have sex with that woman.'' We live in a country that from 1992 to 2000 saw a president and his wife duck all responsibility for their actions. ``I'm sorry'' was not in their vocabularies. It is in the lexicon of the submarine's skipper. Cmdr. Scott Waddle ignored his lawyers and arranged recently to meet privately with the families of the nine dead Japanese students. According to the families, Waddle apologized profusely to them. He embraced them. He wept with them. After the encounter, the father of one of the Japanese boys said that Waddle's heartfelt remarks took away his anger. Somehow, seeing the tears and the pain and the grief and the guilt of the naval officer helped him realize that it wasn't some unrepentant American behemoth that had killed his son. It was just a man. Waddle didn't stop there. On Tuesday, again defying his lawyers, Waddle took the witness stand. His appearance before the court of inquiry shocked observers because he did it without the immunity from prosecution that his lawyers had sought and that others had gained. Waddle said he testified because, ``It was the right thing to do.'' I'll bet that the people who actually knew Waddle were not at all surprised. This commander and his crew are breaking all the rules. They aren't hiding behind their attorneys. They aren't engaging in mass finger pointing. They don't appear preoccupied with saving their own skins. They do, however, seem determined to set the record straight. And to say they're sorry. That takes guts. In the course of the inquiry it has become clear that these men made mistakes that awful day in February. A frightening series of avoidable, deadly mistakes. But the culprits are behaving better than the Navy itself did in the aftermath of the deadly Iowa explosion. Navy brass then attempted to pin the blame on a single sailor whom the service accused of being a homosexual. The men of the Greeneville are also behaving far more honorably than their former commander in chief. Unlike Clinton, the officers of the Greeneville will pay for their mistakes. They could face courts-martial. They may also face civil actions. Their candid remarks will work against them later, which is why their lawyers have been trying to shut them up. They don't seem to care. They want to tell the truth. The tragic story of the Greeneville is destined for the history books. My hope is that someone, somewhere, will also record the remarkable conduct of the commander and crew in accepting blame for the accident. One thing is certain. Though the careers of the men of the Greeneville are in tatters, their character is not.

This is Arnie Miliefsky, otherwise known as "Ski." Rate EN2(SS). I served aboard the USS Piper SS-409 and became a 10 grander in the late fifties and sixties. I also served aboard the USS Toro SS-422 and made the 11,111 dive, which was the last. Then they sunk it to find the USS Thresher, which they did. I would enjoy hearing from fellow crew members of these boats.

Sorry, but I spent WW2 in the Merchant Marine and the Korean War in the USAF Secutity Service. But I have a question involving a WW2 submariner. My cousin, John "Jack" Tinsley was in the sub service and was out (either on medical leave or was discharged for stomach ulcers) when he visited us in Houston in 1938 or '39. He was called back either before or shortly after Pearl Harbor. I know he was captured and was a Japanese prisoner for many months. I don't know if he was on active service after the war but I do know he made his home in San Diego, got married, and died there. He is buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery as "Tinsley, John, b. 04/21/1913, d. 03/27/1955, CHTOHP USN, Plot: G 2056, bur. 03/30/1955. Can anyone tell me what the "CHTOHP" means? I can't reach any of his family that might know, and I'd like to try to get his military records but I know so little about his times of service - maybe that would help if it is his rating. Thanks for your help!

to my fellow wearers of the dolphin, My name is Mike Myers. I'm a professional storyteller. I qualified on the Harder back in 1968, my father qualified on the USS SS-144 (S39) thirty years earlier. He was the COB on the Jalao (SS368), and the USS SS-91 (R14), the Wahoo, Tautog and the Grayback. Because of the darkness of the Kursk incident, and feelings that arose, I have started research and interviews with WWII sub vets. I want to visit them and record interviews before its too late.
