Default Precision Periscope Mod v1.0 (by Redwine)

Hi all,

at Terrapin site http://U-Boot.RealSimulation.com I find modification for Obs and Attack Periscope Precision_Periscope_Mod_V1.0.zip but here isn't information about this modification.
OK, I add this for other ShipHunters .

Remember, Redwine create this modification, I put only information and screens .

Description from original readme files:
************************************************** ***
Changes :
-------------
This files changes the periscope bearing charts, with very more readable marks, to have a
direct read with below a 1 degree precision, plus, includes a "Vernier" style marks to be able
to measure 1/10 of degree, into both periscopes and UZO,there are many choices.

Baring charts was moved down about 20 pixels to improve readability.

Rig for red mask was reworked to improve bearing charts visualization.

Some minor glitches was fixed in Attack and Observation Periscope rig for red masks.

A rig for red mask was added to the UZO, there are two choices, a black one and a red one.

Optical magnification at Attack and Observation Periscopes, UZO and Binoculars was increased
up to 10X, now minimun marks at maximun magnification (10X) is 0.1 degrees in Observation
Periscope, and 0.075 in Attack Periscope.
Fix from Wazoo.

This mod fixs the 180bug from box, i found this fix enlarging the charts, but the first to
release a mod to fix this bug was Devnull (CharlieX), full credit for him.

Viewfinder size was enlarged up to the maximun permited by the image below the background.

New background for Observation Periscope was added.

Many optional periscope background sets with optional "pin-up" girls was made.

************************************************** ***
And screens.

Observation Periscope:

Attack Periscope:

UZO:

Binoculars:

Thanks Redwine

Thanks a lot for the compliment ! I feel so good some body enjoy the mod.

It contains two types of night mask for UZO, so claimed on that time.

I made 3 or 4 mods, and is true no one is mentioned here.

Thanks to Terrapin to host it too.

Here you have some other little improvments.

A 360 degrees instead 180 left_right bearing instrument.

http://rapidshare.de/files/8141847/3...g_Mod.zip.html

A set of map tools, there are many, but this have bearing wheels made by Kolbus.

http://rapidshare.de/files/8141903/H..._Mapa.zip.html

I made the 180Fix too, similar but not same as Charlie X one, but it is included into Precision Periscope Mod.

JXP,
Redwine,

Thanks for this great work.
But i have some questions: Is the raising in magnification a real thing? This could improve the flag identification? How can you guys achieve to raise the magnification factor (10x)? I tried sometime ago to mod the scene.dat for this but I don't work...

Thanks for any advice.

I thing this is a game bug. You must edit Commands_en.cfg (Commands_de.cfg) and assign key for 10x zoom level.

Code:
[Cmd70]
Name=Cam_zoom_in
Ctxt=1
Key0=0xBB,Rc,"" ..... key for zoom in is Ctrl+PLUS

[Cmd71]
Name=Cam_zoom_out
Ctxt=1
Key0=0xBD,Rc,"" ..... key for zoom out is Ctrl+MINUS
thats all

There are 3 screens from the same distance with default Obs Per 1x zoom, 4x zoom and additional 10x zoom.

Thanks JXP,

I will make some tests with these commands and will post my impressions here to you later.

Those mods are very old yet, i dont remember exactly but i think so i made them few weeks after game release.

10X magnification trick is not my discover, as the redme above says, it is job of Wazzo, i take it fro my mod.

I soupose that level of maginfication is not real but as was extensively discued in SH2 and in this mod, a eye visual definition is infinitely bigger than the definition in the game and the monitor, some important thing as mast are not properly modelled when far, but in real life you can see them and measure mast top angle with no problems.

As i always says, the important is not to set historical values, instead the important is to have a historical behavior.

You always must to take in account, you are in a chair, with a mouse and a keyboard, it is too limitating if you set all at historical values or conditions.

Many periscopes has a very big bearing strip outside the viewfinder, on top of the scope, this strip has may be 60 cm diameter, it is a long near 2 meters, it gives you a very precise bearing strip, plus they has a Vernier type double dial to measure bearing preciselly.

Due to that i done this little help, not real, not historical, but we have not acces to the outside strip.

About how much it can help, JXP give you the response and examples.

Redwine,

I agree 100% with you.
Sometime ago I tried to enable this 10x but I don't know why it not work for me. But now is ok!

Apart the game limitations already be a correct justification to use this 10x magnification to identify the flags I want to say that the Germans had excelent optics instruments in WWII era and unless someone here have a better correct historical information I think that the Binocular, Uzo and Periscopes goes certainly beyond 6x in magnification in the uboats.

Thanks again for this excellent mod!

I'm using IUB. Would this mod conflict with any of the additions from IUB?

Oh yeah and nice pin ups.

So now ur "head to view" and "view to heading" still work as well as the 10X Zoom. Dont get em mixed up
so if i understand right, the 10x zoom does not work with 1.4b?

10X trick works fine in any version, almost in periscope, UZO, deckgun, and AAA artillery.
I am using it in 1.4b now with no problem.
Precision Periscope Mod was done with instructions to adapt it manually to any game version.

Just verify you had edited both Comand_en.cfg and Comand_de.cfg

like this mentioned above, just remove the semiclones......

[Cmd70]
Name=Cam_zoom_in
Ctxt=1
Key0=0xBB,Rc,""

[Cmd71]
Name=Cam_zoom_out
Ctxt=1
Key0=0xBD,Rc,""

I do not know hw to adapt it to camera view.

And Ii think so it must not have any uncompatibility with any mod.

About pin-ups, you have 3 posibility, no pin-ups, old fashion pin-ups, and new fashion pin-ups.

Hi guys,

First of all I should like to say that the 10x works in my installation (SH3 1.4b plus a lot of mods) without problem.
Yesterday when I was making some tests with the 10x I achieve to put this feature on the mouse wheel without conflict with anything. I guess that is a more intuitive way to zoom in and out. Look:

=====================
The original settings:

[Cmd70]
Name=Cam_zoom_in
Ctxt=1

[Cmd71]
Name=Cam_zoom_out
Ctxt=1

[Cmd72]
Name=Cam_zoom_cycle
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x09,,"Tab"

[Cmd73]
Name=Cam_wheel_zoom
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x05,R,"M.wheel"

[Cmd74]
Name=Cam_tight_toggle
Ctxt=1

===============================
The new settings (Use shift + mouse wheell to zoom in and out):

[Cmd70]
Name=Cam_zoom_in
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x05,Rs,"Shift+M.wheel" ; <==here the unique modification

[Cmd71]
Name=Cam_zoom_out
Ctxt=1

[Cmd72]
Name=Cam_zoom_cycle
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x09,,"Tab"

[Cmd73]
Name=Cam_wheel_zoom
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x05,R,"M.wheel"

[Cmd74]
Name=Cam_tight_toggle
Ctxt=1
====================

That is all! Now you can zoom in and out just using shift+Mouse wheel. The others commands are the same.

Redwine,

I tried a bit to use only the M. wheel but don't work for me.
Only this way, using shift + M. wheel, it works.

So,
I have the 1x to 10x using shift + mouse wheel in and out. When I use only M. wheel the game works as the default settings.

Rubini.

Edit: I also don't know nothing about "Name=Cam_tight_toggle" command.
