A group of about three dozen men stopped President Trump's healthcare bill cold. Who are they, and how much power do they have?
President Donald Trump's first major legislative push came to a halt last week as the American Health Care Act (AHCA) failed to be given a vote. Much of the blame for the bill's failure was placed on the Freedom Caucus, a secretive group of Republicans who refused to get in line behind Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Mr Trump.

The Freedom Caucus emerged in 2015, in response to complaints that then-Speaker of the House John Boehner tried to jam through legislation in defiance of House rules - specifically, legislation they thought wasn't conservative enough.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, members of Congress are human, are citizens of the US and do enjoy the first amendment right to peaceably assemble... which is all a caucus is.

They have no more or less power in congress than any other equal in number group.

Considering that Trump needed the money he wanted to save in Obamacare to cross-finance his tax "reform" as well, these 30 men probably have done and acchieved some little bit more than just stopping the dismantling of Obamacare for the coming 4 years minimum. They maybe already have sunk the tax reform as well.

So far only decrees signed, no laws passed. Donald alone at home.

But he called Merkel on phone to congratulate her personally for her splendid victory she scored in the Saarland elections on Sunday. Only that Merkel did not candidate and did not win there, but Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. Thus some irritation was signalled from sources close to the chancellor'S office. Maybe he should get some foreign experts into his adviser staff, explaining stuff to him before he talks. And maybe somebody should take his telephone away from him, too. Just in case he has a problem with listening.

Monday's phone call was added to Trump's schedule after Merkel's Christian Democrats won a regional election in a tiny western state over the weekend. In an official readout of the phone conversation, the White House said Trump spoke with Merkel "to congratulate her on the outcome of the Saarland state election on March 26."
But the statement also added that the two leaders "used the occasion to reflect on the Chancellor's March 17 visit to the White House."
Trump employed a less aggressive tone and did not repeat his claim that Germany owed the US money, said US officials familiar with the call. He instead used the local elections as a way to flatter Merkel.
Sunday's vote in Saarland state -- Germany's smallest -- isn't expected to have a major impact on the balance of power in Germany, and the Christian Democrats have held power in the area for the better part of two decades.
But the election was seen as a bellwether for a series of upcoming votes in Germany, ending in the federal elections on September 24.
Merkel's party performed better than expected. The center-right Christian Democrats won 40.7% of Sunday's vote, a solid 5.5% increase over four years ago and a convincing win over the center-left Social Democrat Party, which only took 29.6%, according to CNN affiliate ARD

Kinda differen than most of our press tells it. Forgive if we do not care that much for American sources anymore these days. They are now even less trustworthy than ours, I'd say. If we ever want the term "trench warfare" or the physical principle behind + and - poles explained - then we ask American press these days.

This only means that Trump will have to enlist Democrats in reforming healthcare. That's the proper thing to do anyway, so this should come out much better for the obstructionism of the Gang of 29.

No matter what anybody comes out with healthcare is expensive. Some people are going to have to pay for it. Some people are going to be unhappy.

Obama's greatest mistake was that he fiddled with healthcare while the economy burned. Trump repeated the error. Health care should have been in third place behind fixing the tax code and fixing the economy.
