Default CO2

I was wondering if anyone else has come across a problem with CO2 levels rising whilst surfaced. I use FOTRS am I have found this very good but just recently I have encountered this problem with CO2. After being submerged for a while the CO2 level indicator starts to turn red. Usually this returns to normal once surfaced. However, on a number of occasions the indicator will stay in the red and from then on continues to rise until I am told we are out of oxygen and we must surface. Somewhat irritating as I am already on the surface and of course the vessel is lost because we all suffocate through lack of oxygen.
Any thoughts would be welcome Thank you.

Yes it's happened to me in stock and with mods so I believe it's a core game problem. I've found that when it starts rising on you even while surfaced that if you save and reload it fixes the problem.

This bug comes with the game, and apparently can't be fixed. If you save the game and reload it it should reset.

A lot of people tend to suspect it's from Alt-Tabbing while playing the game.

That said, I've never Alt-Tabbed out of SH4. Consequently, I've never experienced this in all the years I've been playing SH4. Alt-Tabbing can bring about all sorts of mayhem with the game.

Go to the Control Room interior camera. Leave time compression at 1. Alt-tab out.

The game will pause while you are gone, and the problems will not occur. I've used it for a while and had no problems so far.

Default Question

I've heard of the Alt-Tab command. What is it used for? I read about this command and now I can't remember what it's for.

It's used to switch between windows. Such as switching between SH4 and subsim.com

I hate that damn bug, always happens to me right as I attack a large TF and bad time to save.

Seems to me someone could remod it so you only got the warning when the levels were critical, then it would hardly ever be a factor.

I highly doubt anyones ever been done it by it. You can stay down over a day when you get the warning. Hate not having realism, but almost worth cutting this option off since it has no real effect on play.

I realize this thread was about dead, so sorry for bringing it back up. I just had an encounter with this bug. Had a Porpoise class sub, was out for about a month, noticed the Co2 gauge began to rise with a warning that the Co2 level had risen above 10%. I surfaced, it was at night, so I figured I'd be able to lower the level before daylight. It never went down. I charged the batteries ok but the Co2 level stayed the same. Later that day I had to submerge and the level crept up higher. I surfaced again with no luck in getting it to go down. I played for about another day and a half (game time) and the Co2 maxed out. At no time did I ever get the gauge to fall. While I was on the surface, heading home, I noticed my top speed was falling off, the crew was ill, and within a little while my career came to an end with a death screen for my efforts. No enemy destruction, the boat just stopped functioning.

I see some of you have an explanation regarding the use of the Alt-Tab. I've never used the key combination and didn't use it this time. One says its bad to use it, another said to use it to make things better?! So, which is it?

I can tell you this much, NOT using it killed my career. That's all I know. If anyone has a better idea than making sure this option is disabled in the options menu, I'd like to hear it.

It's a bug, it seems to happen more alt/tabbing, but can still happen. To correct it, save and reload, it will reset.

I wish someone would mod it so that it didn't activate so early. I haven't timed it, but I can't recall in years ever being forced to stay down so long it maxed out. I've pulled off attacks, done night long end arounds and attacked again with the bug before it came close to maxed.

I finally cut the CO2 option off because of the bug and the fact it's never been an issue with the levels rising enough to kill me.

One thing that has worked for me is to go back to periscope depth and click the CO2 icon. This will surface the boat and the CO2 should be OK.
Hasn't happened in a long time but it did work, TMO1.65

I've never had this bug, and I have alt-tabbed out, on occasion, so that, in itself, does not cause the problem.

In the game, it isn't much of a factor. I don't recall ever going above 26% CO2, (for 12 hrs or so submergence). I doubt this is a realistic model. The CO2 content is obviously an abstract figure; in RL concentrations above 2%, will cause headaches and assorted symptoms, while concentrations above 8%, will cause more severe symptoms or unconsciousness in a short time. Concentrations around 4 or 5% are considered toxic.

Just a parting shot on the subject but, in over two years of play, I think I've encountered this CO² bug maybe 2 times. As far as Alt-Tabbing, the thing that I've noticed is that it behaves just like a CTD so, in essence, that's what you're doing by Alt-Tabbing, creating a controlled CTD. That's why I try to avoid doing it at all costs.
Another interesting thing I've observed, and wonder if anyone else has, is restarting a game from the Main Menu rather than Exiting to Windows and restarting from there. Whenever I restart a game w/o exiting to Windows first, very weird things begin to occur in-game. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I alt/tab a lot. I've noticed 3 bugs that happen when I do.

CO2 bug
Silent running won't engage..rare
Crew not repairing.

The crew not repairing is dangerous, because unless you click on a crew member on a damage compartment to check to see if he's in repair mode, you wouldn't know.

Wern, I load from the main window all the time, haven't noticed anything myself, except a few graphic bugs with this cheap card.
