.dds plugin for Photoshop

I downloaded and installed the dds plugin for Photoshop, then restarted the comp, it seems right installed in the D:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Plug-Ins\File Formats, but when I try to open a .dds, I still get the message (translated) "Impossible to execute this operation because the document is of an incorrect type".
Is there some more things to do to make it work ?

Not sure. Are you using 64 bit version of PShop? AFAIK the plugin only works with the 32 bit version.

Not sure whether plugin versions differ. This one works on my Pshop ok.

Do you want to view them in windows or in photoshop . For viewing in windows/sh5 folders etc download the thumbnail viewer
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/d...il_viewer.html and then set your views to thumbnails at the top of your explorer window . For using in photoshop install photoshop plugins

If you want to see what type of dds file the dds is then download windows texture viewer

Run the program again and it will uninstall then run it again and install to my documents . Then put the two folders inside the plugin folders into
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop \Plug-Ins by moving them with the (move to) tool at the tool bar .

also try paint.net utility, it is free open source photo editing tool and does all formats plus dds without needing a plug in and is a good editor to use.

there are some things photoshop can do that paint.net may not be as user friendly with but as far as related to modding stuff they are the same IMO

its probably the 64 bit thing. I had the same problem. The dds plugin only works with the 32 bit version so make sure it installs to that version.

So on my 64 bit win 7 that is the programs(x86)/adobe/photoshopCS4 not the programs directory. Then fire up the photoshop 32 bit version and then open the file you want from in there. If you double click it then it will default to the 64 bit version and wont work with your dds plugin.

Took me half a day to figure that out! what a doofus!

if you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop (as I am) and you want it to default to the 32 bit version do this (this assumes you installed the 32 bit version along with the 64bit version during the install):


If you are uncomfortable editing your Windows Registry do not attempt this fix. I will not be responsible if you screw up your computer in any way. As a precaution its advisable to back up your Windows Registry before attempting to edit it.

1. Go to Start and in the Search box type either regedit or regedt32 to open the Registry Editor

2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\Photoshop.exe

3. The keys in the right pane of the Registry Editor should read something similar to the following:
Default C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe
Path C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\

4. Right-click each key, select "Modify" and change them to the following:
Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe
Path C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4

5. Click File > Exit to save and exit the Registry Editor.

These instructions assume you have a standard installation of Photoshop. If you installed it in another location you'd have to modify the paths to suit.

now when you double click a photo it will open with the 32bit version vice the 64bit version. This information was found on the internet and I've done it to my system.

or just use Paint.Net and just click to open, edit, and save your dds images

Works great and gives you huge variety of options.

Thank you all very much for your help! I run the PShop CS 8.0.1 version (64/32 I don't know and wasn't able to determine that, but I think the 64bit version wouldn't work on a 32 bit system) under XP SP2 32bit and got the plugin installer from nVidia developer site.
I ran the installer and got it installed automatically as follow:



That's why I'm not sure when sober says : "install the two folders inside the plugin folder to the photoshop plugin folder".
Anyway I ended up by installing paint.NET which works, but that sounds like a defeat to me

Thank you for the W7/64bits tips that will be usefull as I'm gonna get it soon.
