Worst storm ever

Late November 1939, U 46 is in BE 99 as assigned and for four days this was the worse storm I have encountered. The last two days of the storm I could not go East or West to charge my batteries except at flank speed (reduced to a whoppying 4 knots). Never had one that bad.
The strangest thing was on the fifth day coming to the surface, sun was out and sea state was calm, like it never happened.
To top it off in the distance after this storm the bridge watch spotted a one man liferaft and a German sailor was in it. How he survived that storm is just short of amazing.
We brought him on board and asked what boat he escaped off of and he stated his name was "Bernard".
Apparently his last skipper had put him in the raft cause he accidently fired on a German supply ship!?! No one could be that stupid, has to be a mistake.
Anyway I am heading home, so an extra hand can help.
However none of the crew would let him help, take a watch, nor man the guns. They act like he is jinxed.
I will leave him off at the port and maybe some of you skippers could use him. Bernard says he has been on alot of boats already.

Er... which port is that again? Because some of us may want to request a transfer. To a different one. Before we have to go back there.

2nd Flotilla.
He seemed a strange fellow. I am sure someone will take him on.
Anyway I got enough trouble with my IWO "Max" who sometimes at the UZO doesn't look and instead of "lock", hits "snorkel depth", making the boat look like a porpoise.

OK, Just guessing, however that would explain the behavior of the crew.
