So last night I installed GWX. Uh oh.
![]() First of all, I love the new sounds! They are awesome. I love the background crew noises. I love the scream of "Alaaaarm" whem you crash dive. ![]() But I'm having all kinds of graphics problems now, and they get worse the longer I play, until the game crashes out. The first thing I noticed is I went up on the bridge and my Watch Officer's hat extended up into the sky, while the brim of his hat extended off into the horizon. Then the seawater started to change color. Basically it looked as if there were pink sheets of paper floating in the ocean all around us. Then I went into the Command Room and you could see nothing. All geometry had, it seems "exploded", and the spikes of it make it look like you were inside of a crystal or something. Then I sighted a ship, and when you looked at it through the periscope likewise its geometry turned it into a sharp-edged chunk of triangles with a smokestack. Then all of the other graphics started to have little glowing blue flecks all over the screen - on the crew uniforms, around control panels, etc. Eventually, the game crashed. I'm going to try a complete uninstall/reinstall. |

![]() ![]() Sounds like a graphics card driver problem, maybe you should check for latest drivers? |

Maillemaker, is this just an SH3 problem or does it happen with other games also? |

SOunds like it could be a failing gfx card as well.

sounds like a Bad Driver
or that your GFX card is overcooking himself (the Heat)

That was happening to me with GWX (but not with NYGM). I'm convinced it's artifacting due to an overheating CPU/graphics card. I turned down my core voltage from 1.6v to 1.5 (not sure why it was at 1.6...) and the problem went away immediately. On a really hot day I get the occasional crash, and some artifacting. I think GWX just drives the system harder.

Well the good news is I now work for a new computer company and should be able to buy high-end graphics cards at cost. Unfortunately I don't think my old computer supports PCI Express so I will likely need a new machine anyway.
I'd update my drivers, but the hotel I've been staying at has very spotty (like it hasn't worked for 3 weeks) internet access. I think next paycheck I'm buying a new computer. Steve |

For what it's worth, my mb only supports AGP so I recently purchased the nvidia 7800 GS in the UK for £130. You do have options

I had a simliar problem with a new AGP card that wasn't quite compatible with my old AGP motherboard. Ended up springing for a new MB, PCI card and a new HDD to boot. Much better machine now

seems to be a graphic card problem, too much overclock or overheating.
My first experience in GWX was not soo good ![]() i intercepted a convoy in bad weather and storm ,but after an attack and the sinking of a c3 cargo i´m forced to dive and evade two scorts, not very difficult, but since them i was unable to get a good intercept course to the convoy (damn weather ![]() finally i´ve lost the convoy and forced to return by fuel shortage, only sinking two small cargo ships and the boat full of torpedoes, but i have to recognise that i make as lot of mistakes ![]() it´s not a criticism about GWX, ![]() ![]()

I think it might have been a thermal issue. Last night I used some compressed air and blew off all the heat sinks etc. The game ran fine all night, only crashing to BSD when I went to exit the game for the night.
I forget the graphics card, it's an ATI something-or-other. I bought the system as a complete system about 5 years ago. It's an Emachine T6000 with an AMD 3200+ 64 bit processor, 512MB RAM (need to upgrade), some ATI graphics card, yadda yadda. Steve |

Well I have well and truly fixed the problem, I think. Couldn't convince da wife to let me buy a new computer, but I did buy a new graphics card, an ATI X1950. I don't know if it's a good card or not, but it was the most expensive AGP graphics card on the shelf at Best Buy, so I took it. I also got another 512MB of RAM bringing my system up to 1GB of memory. The processor itself is an AMD 3200+ 64bit processor. I figure that's still a lot of oomph even today. Also, since there was a place for it in my case, I went and installed another 80mm exhaust fan to help keep things cool.
